Magic Mouse 1 not scrolling

Just updated my iPad Pro to iPadOS 13.4, and was able to pair my Magic Mouse 1 to it. Point and click work just fine, however can't get scrolling gesture to work. Is this a known bug or is it just me ?

Apple documentation is very clear as to the user interface devices supported by the iPadOS 13.4 update. The Apple Magic Keyboard, Magic Mouse 2 and Magic Trackpad 2 all have full support - plus generic support is added for third-party input devices.

The original Magic Mouse and Trackpad were not designed or intended to operate with iPadOS - and whilst not supported by iPadOS, remain fully operable with the Mac computers for which they were designed to operate.

Generic device support provides basic input functionality. For example, many Mice require a manufacturer-supplied “driver” to be installed to enable additional “buttons” (beyond the basic/generic left/right mouse-buttons) and any proprietary “touch” functionality. Additional device driver installation is not (and never has been) supported on iOS platforms. For this reason, basic devices, such as a “basic” mouse seem to have full OS support - whereas a feature-rich Mouse (with many bells-and-whistles) only provides its basic functions when connected to iPad.

Many here are clearly disappointed in that the older-generation Magic Mouse/Trackpad, expressly designed for Mac, are not supported by iPadOS - however, all computing systems have limits as to the type of devices that it can support. Older hardware and devices are often not forward-compatible with new operating systems.

Take this up with Apple.

Actually call Apple customer support and see what they tell you!

I am just an Apple customer/product user, just like you!

I have no vested interest either way accept that I am against turning iPads into a poor/lesser version of a laptop computer.

You are, also, free and welcome to submit feedback about this issue to Apple.

This is only one of the few ways to directly contact Apple about ANY product issues.

iPad Feedback

http://www.apple.com/feedback/ipad.html

Cognizant Apple employees read ALL feedback generated from all of the various feedback pages and transfers the data to the proper and responsible Apple teams and personnel, but NO Apple employees will ever respond with any type of direct, individual replies from the feedback you post.

The more users that post product feedback about any product issue, the faster Apple, in California, is made aware and starts working on a fix/solution for a future software update.

Good Luck!

The original Magic Mouse is MORE THAN A DECADE OLD. Whether to you or anyone else this seems ridiculous is in itself a ridiculous statement. Apple API's have evolved over the years and for mouse support SIGNIFICANTLY when iPadOS 13.4 was released. To expect Apple to make a mouse designed over a decade ago to be fully capable with the new API's is the ridiculous statement here.

Technology moves forward every day. Old devices aren't designed to be future proof. Take your complaint to Apple directly, but don't expect they'll do anything to make your VERY OLD mouse work with your iPad today.

Apple is NOT going to fully support its 11 year old input devices.

This I doubt not. At the same time understanding this doesn’t prevent me from looking at Apple negatively for forcing users buy new products when there is no objective need to. They went out of their way to cut off users from using older devices as opposed to they didn’t want to do additional work to keep it supported.

How is it I can scroll with a MS mouse that cost less than 10 UKIP connected to iPad Pro 10.5 via USB with camera connector, but not with Magic Mouse 1?

The following Live Photo shows this. Hopefully the “live” photo will work in this forum. Alas it seems live does not work but you can clearly see the scroll bar that pops up when I move the scroll wheel.

Shame MM1 not supported, but will I spend 66 UKP (Amazon) or 79 UKP (Apple) for new mouse, probably not.

Why shame on me? I didn’t write the code - anymore than you did.

The only absurdity here is your apparent expectation that an old, already discontinued Apple product, would have explicit support added to a new a Operating System - that until now, had only minimum support for any external pointing device.

If you don’t like the facts of the matter, as outlined, that is hardly my problem.

OK, I just tested this cheap 2.4ghz Logitech mouse, plugged directly into 2018 iPad via the USB adapter and it works fine for movement, left & right click & scroll wheel. No need for USB power.

That’s saved me £59 from Amazon UK! To be honest I will probably upgrade to the MM2 and the MT2 at some stage as I use Logic on the Mac and trackpad is great with that, but for now this is fine.

By the way I bought my BT Logitech keyboard for £10 & the mouse for £5, both off FaceBook marketplace, there are some great bargains to be had there! Oh and the mouse is “soft click” so when you are working it is not too loud, maybe 20% of the noise of a standard mouse...

It’s the M330 model

I have checked before I bought the iPad Pro that I could use my Magic Mouse one, it was supported so I decided not to get a new one in te package. I thought is was kind of cool that the old mouse was still working, that gave me a good feeling about the apple brand. Now I find out it doesn’t support scrolling. For me its clear that it’s not because its such a tough job to make it compatible, but mostly that they know people wil buy a new one. It’s al about making more money. It’s a shame they are not caring More about long time apple users!
