camera is not working

my camera is not working, whenever i open facetime or any other app that uses my camera, it says that the laptop is not connected to an external camera. I have checked in Mac>System Report>Hardware and there's no camera.

What can I do? I have followed all solutions suggested online.

Thanks

Hi Superpaga75,

Since these steps didn't get your camera working, let's isolate a little more.

  • Make sure that you are using the latest version of macOS, which is Catalina 10.15.4.

This explains how to back up and update: macOS - How to Upgrade - Apple

  • It's possible that the MacBook Air name has carried over from your older Mac; perhaps from when you set up this Mac.

You can see how to check the name and change it here: Change your computer’s name or local hostname on Mac

  • If your Mac is up-to-date. try creating a new administrative user, and see if you can use the camera there:

This article explains how to do that: How to test an issue in another user account on your Mac

If these steps don't get your camera working agin, some more information might help:

  • When did this issue begin happening?
  • Is anything different from when it was working until now, such as a software update or a new app?

Hope this helps!

Hi Superpaga75,

Thanks for reaching out here in the Apple Support Communities. I understand that your camera isn't working for any apps, and isn't being detected when you check in System Information.

I'm glad to help with this.

You mentioned that you've tried everything online, and just to make sure, have you also tried resetting the SMC (System Management Controller)?

This explains how How to reset the SMC of your Mac

If that doesn't get your camera to be recognized, give some more details about what you've already tried.

Take Care.

Ciao,

thank you for your support, It did not work.

I have done anything I have found online, from re-starting to Termina "sudo killall VDCAssistant" (see picture attached). It tells me of a Mac Air, but this is a Mac Book Pro. I had a Mac Air, so I am a bit confused.

Please help, because in this time of quarantine I do need a camera:)

Thanks for your help.

Best
