Hello,
First, you can check your battery status in the Settings app through Setting > Battery > Battery Health. Any level under 80% indicates that you could very well experience battery problems due to aging of the battery.
If your battery starts draining much faster after a software update and the battery health is fine, you could try restoring your iPhone using Finder (on a Mac) or iTunes (on a PC). You can find instructions on how to do that at:
Please ensure you first make a backup in iCloud so you can restore it after restoring the iPhone.
It’s not your battery - but if this constant power drain continues then it will be!
My Iphone X now runs hotter and discharges in about 5 hours. The battery is reported as working at 93% efficiency. By the way, its killing my ipad too!
lets hope Apple fix it soon as I doubt they will replace the batteries for free.
Ios 13.4.1 was installed where the graph starts on the left, you can see the battery level droppi ng as soon as it was installed. The graph then shows it charging and again dropping like a stone. Interestingly, I wonder why the light blue bars have shot up so high...
You have my sympathy! I don’t think Apple take much notice of these discussions or their customers. I have called them (yesterday) - as usual, no admission of guilt.
Since updating to 13.4.1 battery drain has become crazy, I personally had no problems (apart from FaceTime) with 13.4
Phone was on low power mode to help reduce draining (Shown by the yellow bars in the graph below). That idea worked (not!), so I turned it off for the evening. I charged it last night and all went well until I started using the phone at around 11am. See how the screen off time (light blue bars) go crazy and the battery level plummets - I only used the phone to see how the battery was, literally 30 seconds! Since then I haven’t used the phone except to check the battery every hour or so, yet this quick usage seems to have triggered the battery draining bug.
There’s a huge bug in the OS, all we have to do is get Apple to take some notice!
Mike, calm down. You will hurt yourself.
The beta of iOS 13.4.5 is already being tested. If you want to make sure your situation is covered in it contact Apple support and tell them the specifics. In case news is slow in your area there is a pandemic going on which is stopping or delaying lots of things.
Thank you for sharing your experience. I have frequently posted on this thread because I have an iPad Pro - which worked flawlessly for two years. I updated to iOS 13 and bam : my battery life went from 20 hours to 3. Battery health is 91%.
I've done two factory resets as well as all the other troubleshooting. For six months now I have sought a resolution.
I am still working with Apple advisers and will post any positive results on this thread or the other thread I started in the iPad forum.
Solidarity is a good thing as we deal with these issues. Hopefully together we will find resolutions.
The problem is wholly IOS13 & its not only battery drain problems with Mail working when it feels like it being a major part of the problem.
I have an SE & it was fine on ios12 but as soon as I upgraded to ios13 my smart phone was converted into a short lived hand & ear warmer that crashed, rebooted, didn't know how much power was or wasn't in the battery, checked for new mail when it could be bothered, wouldn't search & a few other things.
The screenshot below gives you some idea of what's causing it.
The one below that shows how quick my battery can drain & the screen time on & off is just total garbage.
Apple basically have a blanket policy of denying all problems with everything unless they are forced to make a statement but as they give the IOS away for free why should they admit it's a total heap of crap.
I hate my iPhone right now & will seriously consider Android when this one dies. Why should I buy another iPhone that is basically useless.
You're right its not all devices some iPhones do not have the battery issue but they do have other problems, some of which I am also experiencing. No OS-IOS is perfect but Apple designated my iPhone, an original SE (basically a 6S with an A9 I believe) as being compatible with IOS 13 but quite clearly its not. I guessing the problem has something to do with the code & certain chip sets in different models & even different chip sets within the same model.
I can tell you now that Apple know about the problem & yesterday I upgraded to 13.4.5B & guess what, no change.
I don't think they are really interested in fixing the problem especially with older models if it means that all the new features they are deploying for newer models look good.
Normally I would agree about certain apps, services causing the problem but as I mentioned in an earlier post I did a flat restore with the latest stable version of 13 at the time & with no other apps or config loaded it was virtually no better than it is with all my apps, mail etc.
Screen shot below shows my iPhone several minutes after a reboot in low power mode & airplane mode turned on with no other apps loaded other than the one measuring the cpu, memory, battery.
It's not normal for the cpu to be running at about 95% & memory at 98% when basically its doing nothing.
If I run the same test on my old iPad mini on IOS12 then the cpu is at about 45% & memory at 70%. Luckily for me its not able to run 13.
I’m also having battery issues. And no, it’s not an old battery, it’s my 11 Pro Max. It used to last all day and be at 30% at 11 pm. Now I usually have to put it on a charger by 7 pm when it is at 10% just so it lasts for the rest of the day. It’s not awful but for sure there is a difference. My usage has been the same, there are no differences only that I upgraded it to the current iOS.
I have excessive battery drain after the recent update. My phone is the original iPhone SE. Battery max capacity is 99%.
I've tried the restore phone, didn't help. I've tried all the other suggestions mentioned in the past.
I had a similar problem with a previous iOS release but I can't remember which one exactly, I think it was 11.x, and it was fixed with a 12.x beta and the official 12. All the gurus jumped on us then saying your battery needs replacing but it turned out it wasn't the battery because the problem went away or was fixed by an iOS release.
My battery drains even when I haven’t used it!
I have to charge my iPhone more than three times a day!
It didn’t happen with iOS 13.3.1 - it started as soon as I updated to the iOS 13.4.1,
It’s the same with my iPad Pro (11-inch)!
It must be the iOS 13.4.1 that has the problem without a doubt!!!

The age & health of the battery is almost irrelevant when the cpu is running pretty much flat-out all of the time when in use & still working hard when in standby.
As I mentioned in a couple of posts ago I actually managed to stop the cpu running flat-out but only for 24 hours & my battery lasted all day & still had a bout 40% left at the end of the day when I put it back on charge.
Now I back to draining the battery in under & hour when in use & maybe 6 hours on standby if I'm lucky.
Has anyone tried what I did to halt the battery drain?
My XR has had good days and bad. After installing 13.4.1 my Contacts were consuming 60-70% of the battery. Makes no sense. I've cleaned out little used apps, stopped Siri totally, changed Fetch settings and stopped all Background Refreshes. I refresh the phone every few days. Now my battery drain started again and it is my iCloud mail. 8 minutes on screen with 13 hours and 17 minutes in the background. Total screen time shows 1 hour and 8 minutes total and 8 minutes of it was working Mail yet Mail consumed 56% of the battery and my Contacts are at it again with 1 minute of screen time taking 35% of the battery. These apps are Apple products, not 3rd party. I've never experienced this type of wild battery drain in the past.
8 minutes of Mail useage should not consume
I had an interesting reaction with my phone, an original SE. Restore phone from Finder to iOS only and no apps or data but still had the drain. I put the phone into lockdown and disabled everything I could find, still the drain happened. I did another restore phone, installed the gmail app and enabled low power mode, still drain and battery was down to 20% by the evening when it should be 90%+ with no use apart from email. I kept this up for a few days, charging overnight, unplug the charger in the morning and enable low power mode and still there was drain. Then yesterday the drain didn't happen and it was 93% last night. No drain again this morning so I disabled low power mode and late afternoon it's 93%. I will add my apps bit by bit if this keeps up.
BTW I had no problem with the same iOS version 13.4.1 on XR or equivalent iPadOS. Only my SE.
April 23rd. The company has just confirmed a massive iOS security hole which impacts almost every iPhone/iPad on the planet.
Following the publication of a devastating report from security firm ZecOps (covered here by Forbes), which claimed that every iPhone running a version of iOS 6 or newer is vulnerable to remote attacks, Apple has now confirmed the problem is real.
Updated iPhone to 13.5 & battery drain about the same which is extremely high (unto 3% a minute) although I know know that after I clicked the message to say my battery is at 10% it will shut down which it didn't do before.
Like I have said before for me as soon as I moved to iOS 13 the cpu went mad but for others it was 13.4 & others again 13.4.1.
I'm currently on 13.5 with pretty much everything turned off & my cpu still at over 80%.
Yes, I'm with you 100% Bob. There are just some people on this Community that for some reason constantly try to dismiss anyone's bug report as "fake". I've seen it over the past 6 months from the same 3 users.
Fact: 13.4.1 has a battery drain issue for me. Fact: Other users have reported it occuring on 13.4. Fact: People are stating that it is still present in the 13.5 Developer Beta 4.
But regardless of these facts, people want to dismiss them as "fake" for seemingly no reason simply because they don't see it on "their" specific device at that specific time.
