I installed the Safari security upgrade today and restarted my computer. Not sure I downloaded any files from my email immediately after. But now if I click on the attachments and they don't respond. I have tried downloading different file types but non work. Don't know if the security installation changed anything or is even related. I made no other changes in preferences.

I found that with Safari you can download AOL mail attachments if you use your private browsing mode to access your mail. Still doesn't work in normal browser window. Looks like a Safari update problem of some kind.

Safari - Preferences - Privacy -- uncheck cross web site tracking box
It worked of me.
1. Startup in Safe Mode: https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201262
To exit Safe Mode, click in the menu bar and choose “Restart.
Login to your account.
Launch Safari and test.
To exit Safe Mode, click in the menu bar and choose “Restart”.

Cannot open attachments in aol mail with Safari 13.1. Chrome works.
I tried this to no avail.
Then I tried using Firefox as a browser. No problem with downloading from AOL. So I conclude it is a Safari problem and that the problem arose after I downloaded the latest security update from Safari. Now, How can i determine what changes that update made that caused the problem? And How do I fix it?
i can download from the Mail App, but not from AOL. The Download bar that used to appear at th top of the screen is gone. Clicking on the file results in no response.
I noticed that Safari updated the same time as the security update. It is Version 13.1 (13609.1.20.111.8)
I tried this, no luck, but a step closer..
I found the box in sound preferences had been unchecked apparently during the Safari update. So this problem is solved.
Is there a specific location or box?
