I can't download attached files from my AOL email

I installed the Safari security upgrade today and restarted my computer. Not sure I downloaded any files from my email immediately after. But now if I click on the attachments and they don't respond. I have tried downloading different file types but non work. Don't know if the security installation changed anything or is even related. I made no other changes in preferences.

Mac mini, macOS 10.13

Safari stopped letting gmail use attachments I use gmail through Safari. Quite suddenly, gmail won't attach files to email. Tried the suggested purges without effect. Switched to Chrome. No luck. Switched to Firefox, which allows the attachments. Restarted from cold. Any idea as to solution?

In sys preferences-sound there is a small box at the bottom of the window.
