What people are "seeing" is the "new" when selecting Mac on the home page:
and on the purchase page:
and because of it people posting are calling it and assuming
it is a 2020 model even though the only thing that changes
was the base SSD installed.
Sorry, I was having a senior moment. I bought a new iPad Pro at the same time I bought the Mac mini. I got the two confused. I agree that there was no change in the Mac mini. I still feel like I was suckered into buying the mini because they said it was new. As I get older, I find more and more product descriptions are getting tricky and you really have to examine and ponder every thing they say about their products.
I have the same problem and can't help but feel I've been lied to by Apple!
I'm also having major problems with my Mac Mini and being able to use it on ANY display, including an external LG 4k monitor or using my old imac as a display. Hopefully sending it back and exchanging for a MBP.
I have the same problem! I just got mine in today and called apple and they said it was their mistake, they started a return n exchange, now its going to take over a week to exchange it.
Where is everyone seeing this “Early 2020” text? The official Apple Support document says 2018: https://support.apple.com/HT201894
The year is for the time that the current model was introduced, it is not the year of your purchase.
Thanks.
Thanks.
same thing for me -- returning mine as well. Pain in the *** --

Why? What do you anticipate to replace it with, as there is no such beast as a 2020 model?
There no 2020 models.
The internals are exactly the same, not "pretty much the same." The only difference is the availability of larger SSDs.
Uhh, that’s the point. They just bought Mac minis and are alarmed when they’re seeing 2018 in About This Mac.
[redacted ... /viking]
The date is for the model's introduction, not the date of manufacture or the date of purchase. Changing the default minimum size of the SSD most likely wouldn't be considered a new model.
