MacBook Pro 16 2019 10.15.4 Kernel Panic / Reboot When Plugged In -- Help!

After I I've updated to the latest release of macOS, I've experienced a weird bug every time I leave my laptop closed (still on) for more than a couple hours and plugged in.

It reboots and states the message/log below.

Not sure what they changed but this did NOT happen before the update.

Things I've tried:

  • SMC Reset
  • PRAM Reset
  • Soft Reset
  • Hard Reset

I still experience this issue everyday.

MacBook Pro 16", macOS 10.15

I recently bought a brand-new MBP 16' too and I experienced several crashes each day even though I had update it to the lastest version of MacOS. I am also very disappointed about Apple's software quality.

What helped was the following:

  • Reset System Management Controllers (SMC) according to the instructions given here (sorry, just the German link; please look for the corresponding English version)

https://support.apple.com/de-de/HT201295

  • Additionally I reset the NVRAM or PRAM even though I don't really know if was necessary:

https://support.apple.com/de-de/HT204063

  • Additionally I turned off power nap in the energy control.

I did all steps after the latest update of MacOS.

Since then no more crashes.

Let uns know if this help for you too.

Stay healthy!

Same: MBP 16" 2019, 10.15.4, 2.4ghz 8-Core i9, 32GB DDR4, Intel UHD 630 1536 MB.

After leaving laptop for some time (mostly lid closed, but sometimes lid open asleep with and without external display), it has been rebooted and shows the kernel panic form to submit to Apple. Only happening after update to

And, you still have third-party kernel extensions loading.

The two primary causes of kernel panics are hardware faults and third-party kernel extensions. Removing the latter is the easiest to rule out.

If it still panics without any third-party kernel panics, then the high likelihood is some hardware fault.

However, Apple may have release bad GPU kernel extensions with this update, so that also could be a cause. That is almost unheard of, though.

I have the same model laptop and am experiencing the same issues as you've described ever since updating to 10.15.4.

My MBP is connected to multiple external monitors and lid is closed. When I use the MBP without the external monitors everything seems to be fine.

Before updating to 10.15.4 I never had any similair problems.

Same here. Brand new Macbook Pro 16'' (1 week old). After updating to Catalina 10.15.4 only when plugged in. Found another thread on the topic here https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/new-macbook-kernel-panics.2228308/. Still no solution, just a workaround (look at one of the last comments).

Let's wait for an update, hope that Apple Support knows about the issue.

I have the same problem with the same Mac & same os x version. As soon as the MBP goes to sleep for too long... it crashes.

Notice that I don't have VirtualBox installed (but I do have parallels, even if it doesn't seem to load a kext).

I checked my loaded kernel extensions and the only ones not "apple related" are Little Snitch & Fuse.

This bug is very frustrating.

I have just reported the issue. They haven't even added version 10.15.4 as an option for the bug report...

There were several articles on iFun (https://www.ifun.de/macos-catalina-10-15-4-abstuerze-im-ruhezustand-wegen-power-nap-152078/), the largest Apple related news platform in Germany. Dozens of people discuss that error there.

I would still suggest that you all fill out the feedback form. Has anyone tried if 10.15.5 beta1 fixes the issue?

I have the same issue. Just got a new 16" MacBook Pro. When plugged in over night at some time it restarts. Same error every time.
