Apple Mail and accountsd using significant CPU

Since upgrading to Catalina, both the Mail app and accountsd use significant resources to such an extent that my 2018 Macbook Pro becomes unusable.

I have managed to identify that it only seems to occur when I enable any Google mail account. Is anyone experiencing a similar issue and has anyone managed to do anything to resolve it?

Hey there pduk,

Thanks for reaching out to Apple Support Communities. I understand you’re experiencing some performance issues with your Mac. It sounds like you’ve isolated the issue to a Gmail account. I’ll be happy to help with this.

Does this issue occur in safe mode? Test and see if this has any impact on the issue:

Use safe mode to isolate issues with your Mac

If that doesn’t have any impact on this, remove the Gmail account from your Mac

Add or remove email accounts in Mail on Mac

Restart your Mac after that and add the account back. Test again and see if the issue is resolved:

How to turn your Mac on or off

Regards.
