After the recent security release for Mojave my Mac Mini (2018) crashes when it goes to sleep. Every time I have to restart it and Finder reports that my Mac crashed. I have an eGPU which has been working like a champ to date... but curious if other people are seeing this problem.

I’d like to sum up the results, we had collected so far:
Possible issues:
The Security Update installed a Firmware Update for the T2 chip. This seems the reason, why the actual problems cannot be fixed by a re-installation of macOS: the new T2 firmware (build: 17P4263), located in a protected memory area of the T2 chip itself, will not be replaced with an older version during a fresh macOS installation.
The T2 chip holds the SMC, which is related to sleep and shut down.
The Security Update 2020-002 also installed changes to IOThunderboltFamily and Kernel, which might be the cause for the troubles with eGPU and failing power supply on 1 TB port.
Found solutions so far:
We have send in lots of Kernel Panic Report and bug reports (via Apple Product Feedback).
So far nobody got any response by Apple. We’re actually waiting for a fix with upcoming updates, as this is clearly a software problem.
Expected solution:
Apple must release bug fixed versions of BridgeOS and Safari for High Sierra, Mojave and probably Catalina. (Catalina users encounter some other issues since the SecUpd that need to be addressed).

Update:
Sorry to report that installing Catalina on a cloned drive did not solve the crashes for me. I'm still getting the same notice every morning after booting my normal Mini (Mojave) drive from a shut down or waking up from sleep.
I installed Big Sur on an external disk and the updated Firmware (Boot ROM Version: 1554.50.3.0.0 (iBridge: 18.16.12561.0.0,0)) seems to have fixed this when booted in Mojave (the startup chime is now enabled by default).
I can again use Safari and put the Mac mini 2018 running Mojave to sleep without a crash and reboot.

Now with Big Sur out, I'll update my Samsung T5/Catalina SSD and see what updating the firmware does for my internal Mojave boot drive.
Perhaps you can give an update on your experience in a few days?
I went to Catalina and have some notes.
1) Running Dreamweaver CS3 under Snow Leopard in VMWare does work, but there's a lot of annoying lag.
2) Photoshop Elements has a terrible user interface compared with Photoshop. It seems really hobbled. I am annoyed by the "Elements" program which seems unnecessary as a launcher for Photoshop Elements, but that's avoidable.
3) It did fix the sleep issue and the "can't boot into recovery" issue.
4) I miss the simpler interface and faster loading of Office 2011 vs Office 365.
5) Otherwise, it seems pretty much the same as Mojave, except with more reliable security updates.
Ironically, I had one full day of not having “upgrade” reminders (from Mojave to Catalina), and now I am getting reminders to “upgrade” to Big Sur, which from what I hear is still really in beta mode.
I have installed the new security update 2020-007 Mojave without any crash reports after a restart. The T2 BridgeOS has been changed from version 17.16.16610.0.0 to 18.16.13030.0.0 (compare T2 BridgeOS for Big Sur 11.1 is verion 18.16.13017.5.3)
Two days without a crash report! Fixed but unfortunate that this took 9 months without a single statement from Apple and three unanswered emails to Tim Cook.
Updated Catalina on the other volume, then booted Mojave again: crash on sleep.
So, if any firmware was updated in the Catalina update, it did not fix our problem.
For almost a week on Catalina: no crashes on sleep..!
