MBP15 - Battery Max capacity dropped to 90% in 8 months (220 charge cycles)

Hey

I am having a really bad battery issue on my 8-month MacBook pro 15 inch 2019 model.

I have the vega 16 one with 16 GB of ram, my battery newer really lasted for more than 4-5 hours. Does anyone know if this is normal? it has to be charged 2 times somedays when I am working with school tasks, should I contact Apple while I still have the 1-year warranty?

Seems pretty normal run time if you are working it.

I see you are running on the Discreet GPU— this certainly demands more power. You can make changes in

>System Preferences>Energy Saver see if this makes a difference for you.

ref: My battery runtime is low

No advantage of unplugging it, unless you demand the portability.

The risk of always on the mains—your battery will last longer 😉

Your battery will never over-charge.

You only have a expected 1000 cycle battery count.

Maybe once a month run it down 50-60% capacity just for a little exercise.

Of course you are welcome to do that, but Apple will consider your battery's health completely normal, as do I.

Refer to https://www.apple.com/batteries/service-and-recycling/

Excerpt:

"Your battery is designed to retain up to 80% of its original capacity at 1000 complete charge cycles."

90% is fine, besides, it will fluctuate up or down a few percent. For example it might be 94% tomorrow. Or 86%. Then up again, and down again. Although the long term trend is down it may never diminish to 80% over the course of its normal life.

The MacBook Air I happen to be using at the moment is four or five years old. Its battery "health" now hovers at about 85%. It's been that way for a long time. I will probably replace the Mac before replacing its battery.

Batteries are meant to be used. Don't obsess over it, and it will last a long time.

Editing videos is certain to consume a lot of power. If you're curious just how much that is use Activity Monitor's Energy pane: View energy consumption in Activity Monitor on Mac. Particularly demanding processes will become obvious.

I usually do have the energy saver on, that’s when the battery is on for 4 to 5 hours just doing simple stuff on safari. When I am downloading and editing videos like today, and more power the battery dies in 1-2 hours

Why are you running on the battery so much? And why do that when you are using the discrete GPU? There isn't anything magic about a battery. If you use it, you drain it. That's how it works.

For comparison, I have a 2014 MacBook Pro that I still use everyday. I've used 383 cycles on it. At your rate, you will hit 1000 cycles in 36 months.

Keep it plugged in unless you don't have any access to power.

There may be a value with use of quality 'external battery' from third-party source

to power MacBook Pro 15-inch for longer duration, & practically lengthen runtime.

These options come at a price; also would allow you to extend original battery life.

1) mophie powerstation USB-C XXL Universal Battery

2) portable external battery pack macBook hyperjuice

~ other similar examples; maybe some nearer your location.
