Your bootable usb drive could not be created; There is not enough space available on the disk

Hi everyone,

I've come across the issue above while trying to make a bootable USB to install windows 10 on my 2012 MacBook Pro running High Sierra. I see that more people have come across this issue, but I'm not entirely sure how to resolve it.

I did read that someone just formatted the USB using Disk Utility and made it into an ExFat USB. Then unpacked the W10 .iso file and placed the content onto the USB manually. After this that person ran BCA and just unticked "create W10 bootable USB drive", but left the other two boxes ticked and continued the installation.

I'm a bit weary of this option, because it's not BCA readying the bootable USB. Can anyone help me with this?

Thanks in advance!

Kind regards,

Yuri

High Sierra formats the USB as FAT32, which cannot handle install.wim on W10 1903 and later, because it is larger than 4GB.

Hey! So I finally got it to work by using the command "sudo tmutil thinlocalsnapshots / 999999999999" in the terminal (found on reddit: https://www.reddit.com/r/bootcamp/comments/88gtoj/the_startup_disk_does_not_have_enough_space_to_be/) and it immediately worked after restarting. Then everything went smoothly and now I'm playing MapleStory on Windows OS on a Mac :)

Thanks for all the help man!

Okay so, I managed to find a W10 1607 iso, and installed it successfully on the USB with BCA! Now I ran into another problem.. It didn't say this before, but since I did a security update today, I get a notification form BCA that I need more space (at least 40GB) to partition my disk, but I have 107GB of free space. Ugh.
