iphone 11 ios 13.4 not appearing itunes

After updating to ios 13.4, my iPhone 11 doesn't show up in iTunes when I connect it. I've checked USB cables etc and all okay. My iPad running ios 13.3.1 shows up without any problems. (The iphone also shows up in the Photos app when I connect it.)

I'm running iTunes 12.8.2.3 in MacOS 10.13.6

I'd be grateful for any tips!

Thanks

Stephen

hi all,

i finally managed to sync my iphone 11pro on ios 13.4 to my early 2011 mbp 13 inch on high sierra.

Here is how it worked.

1- uninstall itunes from your mac book( of course make a backup of your library befor doing so)

then empty the trash. And restart and re install itunes. Itunes file available on apple website.

2- there is a security update on app store 2020-002 which i had to directly download it from apple website in order to install it and keep a copy Of the file for now. Install it and restart.

3- connect your iphone without opening itunes, it will ask you for a software update for itunes in order to be compatible with your phone. Go ahead and install this update as well.

and now you should see your phone showing on iTunes.

anyone not sure about the steps ask, and i will provide links to further explain what I've done and what is the procedure exactly.

cheers

Yep, itunes folder it is.

mine is located inside , library, music folder then i can see itunes folder, which has a large size comparing to other folders.

make sure you do it right otherwise if you move a wrong folder you might lose your music library.

if you want to keep your music library including ratings and everything else you should move it to your desktop and then uninstall iTunes and install it back again and move back the folder. Doing so will keep all your media and its details.

FMarek7 and everyone out there, I found a solution that my iPhone Pro Max is appearing in my ITunes like before. I have not tried to sync the library, because I made an experiment on the clone drive, which I normally do. It was big help from saason, as well.

Here are the steps.

  1. Go-click option select library
  2. Drag iTunes folder to the desktop
  3. Open an AppCleaner application
  4. Go Application folder and drag the iTunes to Appcleaner window

5. Click preferences...

6 Uncheck Protect default OS X apps

7 Many files will show up in the Appcleaner window remove it

8 Restart your mac and install the latest iTunes, available on the Apple side.

9 The new iTunes will detect your Library automatically

10 Connect your iPhone

11 "You need to update your software" message. Click OK, wait 5 minutes and it will appear in your iTunes.

I have no idea why the message pops up, I need to update my software. Apparently the developers predicted this happening to people who run OS prior to Catalina

It was very easy, once we know the secret. I am surprised that Senior advisors, are not informed about this solution. Also, I wish Apple new iOS 13.4.5 would solve the non sync issue that people would not have to waste their time to go through 11 steps process.

Good luck.

  1. My Library is on external Drive. So by reinstalling the iTunes in the general tab preferences pointed to Library on external, I was surprised, that I did not have to direct to the library.
  2. The Appcleaner besides the main app, deletes many necessary files that need to be deleted automatically, bunch of them will show on their app screen.
  3. The latest one from the Apple side. https://support.apple.com/downloads/itunes

The bottom line file 11 steps, its easy.

Good luck!

My songs are on an external drive that iTunes points to. I've reinstalled iTunes twice over the existing copy and it never prompted me to update the software so it doesn't change anything and iTunes still can't see my phone.

I have not tried uninstalling and then reinstalling iTunes because when I was trying the various fixes everyone shared, I didn't want to hassle with the workaround that permits AppCleaner to uninstall iTunes from High Sierra.

Since, in recent posts, you recommend that people just overwrite iTunes and not uninstall it, I wondered if anything had changed to make that method work. Apparently some of the users you advised to do this had it work for them and they did not have to uninstall iTunes. And since you recommended it I assumed it worked for you too, until I remembered that in earlier posts you said you uninstalled iTunes before reinstalling it.

Am I right that reinstalling over an existing iTunes (without uninstalling) has worked for some people?

Postscript: I just read some posts I missed above and see that you and another person both successfully fixed the problem by reinstalling over the existing iTunes. That didn't work in my case, unfortunately. At this point I tend to think this problem is only affecting a handful of people or Apple would have fixed it.
