Safari 13.1 will not load specific pages. HELP!!

I have a Mac Pro (early 2009) and running High Sierra 10.13.6.. Just today SAFARI 13.1 started to give me lots of problems. Many pages on the web just won't load. The error message says "the page was reloaded because an error occurred)

this is what I get when trying to load a page on ebay.

I have deleted cache, turned off extensions etc.. Nothing works.

Can anyone help??

Mac Pro, macOS 10.13

Have tried everything. Chatted with Apple but they didn't suggest anything that I had not already tried.

What did get me a working version of Safari was I reinstalled High Sierra OS. I don't have this problem with other Macs I have two on Catalina, two on High Sierra, one on Sierra and one on Mojave.

Not sure why this one iMac decided to not work correctly with Safari 13.1, but after HS installed Safari 11, everything was okay. I confirmed that it was the update to Safari 13.1 by allowing the update to go through and once again had the same issue. Resolved it for the moment by reinstalling HS OS and blocking Safari 13.1 update.

I finally reinstalled the system software 10.13.6 High Sierra from Apple. It has the working version of Safari included. I did want to install the latest security update, but that now includes the Safari 13.1 update. Knowing that, I will not install the security update package. Does anyone have a link to the stand alone security update?

This bug in Safari 13.1 Has turned my smooth workflow experience on its head, especially on the ability of Safari to memorize passwords.

Apple, if your listening, you always have been a group of talented folks. It surely can’t be that difficult to fix this issue causing so many people so much trouble.

Before reinstalling HS using Command-R, I performed some of the actions the other guys here took but without solving the problem:

a) Disabled Java script

b) Blocked all cookies

c) Emptied caches

d) Downloaded and installed latest Java

Then I also deleted all the passwords saved in Safari and that did not solve the problem either.

Having set "a" and "b" in default I then proceeded to the last solution, to reinstall HS with Command - R.

The installation was successful. All files, apps and settings were there and I updated Safari to 13.1.

Everything works fine up to now

My specs are:

Imac 27 late 2009 Core 2 duo 3,33Mhz (replaced the 3,03), with 8Gb 1333Mhz Ram (replaced the 4Gb 1066Mhz), ssd (had Hdd)

Hope I helped

Hi and thanks for your helpful reply.

Unfortunately, that is what I did at the start of this process: downloaded High Sierra OS from the App Store; installed that as per all instructions (checked drive with Disk Utility first); then after the OS install was complete, I allowed the App Store to install the latest Security Update 2020-002 and Safari 13.1; then all the problems with certain websites involving financial transactions began.

I reinstalled the OS from recovery, which took me back to Safari 11; then did the Security Update 2020-002 and all is working normally.

I am reluctant to try and update Safari again, without some reassurance that the same problems with financial websites won't occur again; it's time consuming having to reinstall the OS every time there's a glitch.

Hello,

You should try this Fix:

1)

  • Open Safari and then go to the Safari > Preferences > Privacy > Remove All Website Data.
  • Open Finder and go to Go > Go to Folder. Type ~/Library/Caches/com.apple.Safari/Cache.db. Press on Go. Then Delete this file.
  • Restart Safari

2)

Make Sure that JavaScript is Turned ON

3)

Reinstall Java (Mac Only) (HOW TO:)

Uninstall Java

  • Open Finder > Applications > Search for JavaAppletPlugin.plugin.
  • Right click on file and then select Move to Trash.

Install Java

  • Download Java from the official Oracle website.
  • Open the jre-8u121-macosx-x64.dmg (or whichever version is the latest) by double clicking on it.
  • Go forward in the installation screen and then press Continue.
  • Press Install in the next screen.
  • Hit Close to finish the installation.

Try Reload the Website after fix.

Hope you fix the problem,

Kiều

So, I have followed the below with success...

  1. Clean out existing Safari settings of cookies, history, passwords, etc.
  2. Disable Javascript
  3. Install newest Java
  4. Re-install HS with Ctl-R option from internet
  5. Install Safari 13.1 from

http://swcdn.apple.com/content/downloads/46/01/061-46316/xvsfnpjvttr5ah1yuj5mpb5x1vvdtytqsv/Safari13.1HighSierraAuto.pkg

Enable Javascript

Enable Cookies

All appears operational.

Apple has not provided any guidance to solve the issue.

A reinstall of the OS is painless and quick.

Please refer to ancoca posting just before yours for details on how to do this.

My system now works perfectly again.

Cheers

Did you try to reinstall Safari only? You can find download link in other thread:

https://discussions.apple.com/thread/251213636

I'm on High Sierra and have no problems after reinstallation of Safari only.

Prior to that I uninstalled Java and installed latest Java - not sure if that had anything to do with succeeding though.

Make sure you get the Safari installation pkg from apple servers.

today I finally took the plunge and installed the Safari 13.1 update recommended in earlier posts (Safari13.1HighSierraAuto.pkg) ... so far, all the websites that previously were stalling now load without difficulty and I'm hopeful this has solved the problem.

still slightly puzzled why this installer update should be more reliable than the one from the App Store which I downloaded at the start of all this?

Websites like bankofamerica.com chase.com bestbuy.com (when signing into acct) most sites that require a login with password, cause the spontaneous reloading and eventual error.

For those of you that want to keep troubleshooting Safari 13.1, I found that if you "block all cookies" under SAFARI>PREFERENCES >PRIVACY, it will let you load the offending webpages but because of cookies being blocked you can not sign into them.

So the consensus is anyone who is running Mac OS 10.13.6 (High Sierra) and has recently installed the most recent "Security Update" are having this same problem. That is... pages not loading properly in Safari.

I am actually using GOOGLE CHROME to write this message on the Apple website. I would much rather use SAFARI, however until APPLE fixes this problem, all of us are forced to use GOOGLE CHROME or FIREFOX.
