Safari 13.1 will not load specific pages. HELP!!

I have a Mac Pro (early 2009) and running High Sierra 10.13.6.. Just today SAFARI 13.1 started to give me lots of problems. Many pages on the web just won't load. The error message says "the page was reloaded because an error occurred)

this is what I get when trying to load a page on ebay.

I have deleted cache, turned off extensions etc.. Nothing works.

Can anyone help??

Mac Pro, macOS 10.13

Thank you Kieu,

I was unable to locate the plugin, but followed the balance of the instructions. Unfortunately it didn't work. Two items of possible interest - the list of cached cookies returns every time I restart Safari - no matter how often they are deleted. Additionally, my 2012 MacBook pro 13 and 2011 MacBook pro 17 run the same OS and Safari updates without this issue. Still perplexed. Even a reinstall of the OS failed to cure this.

So?

How long will this thread have to get, before Apple intervenes?

Four pages and not one SOLUTION. Just well meaning work-arounds and ideas that don't work.

We all have a common denominator(s) with our systems that is causing this problem. Unfortunately, we are in the minority here, only one out of my seven Macs has this issue. It is not OS related, but loading HS will give you the version of Safari that "works" 11.1.2.

Hello B BM,

Thank you for the info. I did try the command-R and somehow I was directed to re-installing HS. It took about an hour and a half. Now I have HS v10.13.6 and Safari v11.1.2. Everything is back to normal and life is good. No more web pages loading errors. I did have to reinstall a legacy version of Java so I could use Dreamweaver CS6 v12 build 5861. I use Creative Suite CS6 for all my graphic work. Cannot afford the iCloud versions.

Anyway, thanks for the help and others should do the reinstall of High Sierra to get things working again.

Hi Jessica

Glad it helped.

I was running Yosemite and completely happy with it until I needed to run a program called Sketchup which worked great on HS. Then I had to spend a day and a half trying various fixes on Safari. Glad Safari is working and hope they fix the security update. I guess my early 2011MBP is a bit dated but the 17 inch screen is amazing.

Well, I decided to reinstall OS High Sierra using Command R.

For those who do not know, reinstalling using Command R reinstalls the OS only. All settings, applications, programs stay intact.

All I had to do after the installation was to log into iTunes again and of course to save all the passwords since i deleted them previously. I then updated Safari to 13.1 and for the last 2-3 hours everything is ok. I hope the error problem will not appear again.

All that took me about 1,5 hours.

If the problem comes back then I will reinstall high sierra but keep safari without the 13.1 update and wait for an update higher than 13.1 to come out.

Just one of my Macs has this issue. Not sure why, but for now will have to use the rolled back Safari 11.1.2 on that Mac. I don't want to mess around with updating to Catalina, since I have seen folks saying that they are having same problem with 13.1 on Catalina. My other Macs are running Safari 13.1 on Sierra to Catalina with no issue, same iCloud ID. 🤷🏻‍♂️

Antogoul-athens,

I am trying to replicate your success but so far it’s not possible. Would you please advise on the following items:

1) Machine model, year, config

2) Any steps taken prior to reinstall of HS (clear Safari history, cookies, etc)

3) Did you simply perform the Safari 11.3 update from App Store updates, or did you download it from somewhere? If the latter, from where?

We need to devise a repeatable SOLUTION or accept there is only a workaround by effectively downgrading to an earlier version. Leaving ourselves open to known, published vulnerabilities is no SOLUTION. For now, I am using Firefox.

I experienced this same issue when Safari upgraded to 13.1, after I had installed High Sierra on my MacPro (mid 2010); the pages that will not load are all related to online banking (Barclays) or online purchases (eg Marks & Spencer), everything works fine until you get to the actual financial transaction.

Would this suggest that Safari no longer recognises the security certificates of these sites?

I reinstalled High Sierra and the latest Security Update 2020-002, but have avoided the Safari update and continue to run Safari 11.1.2, which works without problems.

I hope Apple will address this problem soon.

Before reinstalling HS using Command-R, I performed some of the actions the other guys here took but without solving the problem:

a) Disabled Java script

b) Blocked all cookies

c) Emptied caches

d) Downloaded and installed latest Java

Then I also deleted all the passwords saved in Safari and that did not solve the problem either.

Having set "a" and "b" in default I then proceeded to the last solution, to reinstall HS with Command - R.

The installation was successful. All files, apps and settings were there and I updated Safari to 13.1.

Everything works fine up to now

My specs are:

Imac 27 late 2009 Core 2 duo 3,33Mhz (replaced the 3,03), with 8Gb 1333Mhz Ram (replaced the 4Gb 1066Mhz), ssd (had Hdd)

Hope I helped

Hello,

I am using a MacPro 5,1/ 2 processors each with 6 cores running 2.93GHz. 64GB Ram

Running High Sierra 10.13.6

Safari 11.1.2

My problem was fixed by first shutting down all applications. Restart holding down the Command-R keys. Open disk utility and repair your boot drive (just in case it needs it). Then just click on install macOS and you should be good to go.

This brought my computer to the version of safari that works just fine now.

Let me know if that helps you!

Steve

I made no further updates after I did the re-install of the Mac OS
