Safari 13.1 will not load specific pages. HELP!!

I have a Mac Pro (early 2009) and running High Sierra 10.13.6.. Just today SAFARI 13.1 started to give me lots of problems. Many pages on the web just won't load. The error message says "the page was reloaded because an error occurred)

this is what I get when trying to load a page on ebay.

I have deleted cache, turned off extensions etc.. Nothing works.

Can anyone help??

Mac Pro, macOS 10.13

Hello Steve and thanks for taking the time to respond.

I did basically the same as you, reinstalling High Sierra in recovery mode, after first checking the boot drive with disk utility; like you, I have left Safari running at 11.1.2, as I don't want to risk the same problems as before when I allowed the 13.1 update to install. I cannot afford to be without online banking, especially at this time!!

It would be helpful if Apple could explain why this problem occurs.

kind regards, Kevin

As I posted earlier, I also reinstalled High Sierra in recovery mode and then allowed the Security Update 2020-002 to install; Safari remains at 11.1.2 and all pages load without difficulty, including financial transactions.

I am reluctant to update Safari, in case the same problems re-occur, unless Apple can reassure me that the glitch has been fixed.

kpt,

My hunch is that the issue lies not in the latest Safari version itself, but rather in the manner in which it was installed and the specific configurations of the machines we have. Mine is a late 2011 iMac 27 with 32 GB RAM and a 1TB OWC SSD, running HS. Since a re-install of the full Safari 13.1 package (presumably not just an update) fixed it, I don’t know that there is anything “wrong” with 13.1 itself. As such, we may never hear back from Apple, and ensuing updates may not “correct the issue”. The recent availability of a Java update may also be a relevant clue (all the problem pages I visited required secure login - maybe using Java). We are all here contributing to help each other. Whatever the case, I don’t expect any “official” help from the Apple Mother Ship... just my 2 bits.

Seems like most of the people who posted have older Macs running High Sierra.

FYI: I have a newer MacBookPro (2017, touch bar) running Mojave and having the SAME problems as everyone else here with the Safari 13.1 update.

Wondering if finally moving to Catalina might solve this, although I think I have seen comments from people running that OS where they have this problem, too.

Apparently Apple updated Safari due to some security gaps, so I'm a little reluctant to downgrade to an earlier version. I'm also apprehensive about doing an OS reinstall, although it seems that's the way to go. Argh.

Hi everyone,

I installed the Safari 13.1 HS Package recommended on here and all seems to be ok now— all problem sites now load normally. I deleted my history beforehand, but other settings were preserved. I’m not exactly how this worked— did it reinstall the update and not Safari itself?

I wonder why Apple Support Proper doesn’t offer this fix?

I did NOT have to reinstall High Sierra, and I’m now up to date system-wide.

Thank you to those of you who took the time to reply and offer solutions.

I maintain about 70 Macs. I have (so far) one user with this problem (going to chase.com). I have the same OS, same safari version, and the site works fine for me. We're both administrators on our machines. Had him do all the usual steps, even issue a terminal diskutil resetUserPermissions / `id -u` and empty the cache via the Developer menu to no avail.

Thanks,

Jeff

Thanks for posting Jeff: it would seem then that this problem is a random one, although quite a few people have already posted about experiencing difficulty accessing certain webpages (often involving financial transactions) after upgrading to High Sierra and then Safari 13.1.6

should you discover anything further, please let us know.

many thanks, Kevin

Since the majority of the "fixes" posted were just best guess and experimental. I waited a couple of weeks and just used Safari 11.

Today I allowed the app store to upgrade to Safari 13.1, worked and all the banking, shopping and any website that required a password, loaded and worked correctly. I then upgraded to the latest security fix suite. Everything is working fine.

I did not have to delete or clear any histories, passwords, caches or uninstall Java.

I suggest some of you try it, if you would like to be running the latest version of Safari with latest security updates.
