AirPod Pros will not stay paired with iPhone 8 or iPad

This issue started 2-3 days ago. If I want to use my AirPods I have to unpair them from my phone or iPad and reset them. If I don’t start using them right away and close the case, I have to unpair and reset them again.

I’m running the 2c54 firmware on my AirPods.

Just to check the firmware version now I needed to unpair and reset twice.

When I do finally get them connected and working, the audio quality is garbled and, for calls or listening to music or audio book, I find I need to hold my phone up closer to the AirPods, which defeats the purpose of being wireless.

Any suggestions?
