iPhone 11 Pro wide angle stopped working

Hi,

Recently my wide angle camera function stopped working and when I open the camera app it automatically pops into 2x and only allows me to zoom out to 1x but not. .5(screen shots below), all options work on video. I’ve updated to latest iOS, restarted phone, closed and reopened camera still know luck. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated, I use the wide angle for work all the time.

Cheers Craig

I had this issue. No amount of reset/restoring fixed it. I chatted with apple tech support online. They ran a remote diagnostic. They confirmed there was something wrong. They scheduled an appointment for me at my local Best Buy. The tech there ran the same diagnostic test again... "CAMERA ISSUE REAR CAMERA WIDE ANGLE LENS NOT FUNCTIONING, IS NOT DETECTED IN MRI." The fix was a rear camera replacement, which Best Buy had in stock. It took about 45 minutes. It cost $109. I'm disappointed the camera stopped working after less than 2 years of gentle ownership. However, I am grateful that I did not have to mail the phone in. If reset/restore does not work for you, you will need to get your rear camera replaced. There is no other fix if your camera is not detected. Good luck!

So I had the very same problem. I was getting my 11 Pro replaced for a different reason so I was hoping my new one wouldn’t have that problem. I set it up, same problem. So before I sent my old one back, I set it up as a new phone without the Apple ID. Still didn’t work. So I called Apple technical support and she connected via screen share and saw what I was having trouble with. My new phone didn’t even have the video or slow-mo option in the camera. She said to go into Settings>General>reset>reset network settings. The phone turned off, and turned back on by itself. I opened it up, opened the camera, and everything worked like new. Made no sense but it works!! Hope this helps

Hi! I thought I’d reply since there’s so many people commenting who haven’t gotten the issue resolved.

I had the same problem. .5x not working on my main camera app but when I downloaded ProCamera is WAS working. HOWEVER, even with it working on the third party app, when I brought it into Apple and they ran a diagnostics in my camera, my telephoto lens spit out an error code and they replaced my whole camera assembly. It’s working perfectly now. Didn’t have to hard reset my phone or delete my backup or anything. Would have been $109 but I had Apple care. I highly recommend anyone having issues to make sure Apple runs a diagnostics test even if a third party app still works. It might be your hardware. Good luck!!!

Oh man….this software bug started for me a few weeks ago after an update. I took my phone to my local Apple store and they ended giving me a new phone. I came home, restored it, of course it didn’t when.

Now I know after reading all these replies the problem is in my iCloud back up.

I downloaded the pro camera app (8.99) and my wide angle worked in that app. I shut down my phone and restarted and IT WORKED AGAIN ON THE NATIVE CAMERA. My .5 1 2 are all back on my photo and video! This was suggested by someone on like page 6 or 7 of this thread and it worked!

apple still needs to fix this!

I followed the first solution in this video and it worked. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=WLAQcSodpyk I had tried restarting my phone several times previously to no avail, but for some reason closing the camera app, shutting down the phone from settings, waiting 30 secs, turning it on, and opening the camera app seemed to work. This confirms it is a software issue and you do not need to replace your phone - I was really worried for a bit. Hopefully this is a permanent solution and it does not happen again 🤞

Fixed it on mine!

I had this same exact issue and went to the Apple store. They replaced my phone and when I restored my backup on my new phone but the same wide angle camera issue was occurring on the new phone.

My assumption from there was that there was a bug in my camera app that stays in my backup. I had to just reset my new phone instead of restoring from the backup.

Because I had backed up important apps like photos, contacts, messages to iCloud I was able to still get those back even after resetting and not restoring from the backup. Just make sure those are backed up to your iCloud before resetting and then make sure to log back into iCloud when you reset.

Same issue here.

Phone:

iPhone 11 Pro - Germany - 13.05.01

Description:

All of the sudden (June 04 2020) zoom function 0.5x and 2x were not able to be selected with the buttons in native photo and video mode.

Solutions so far that have not worked:

  • Factory reset
  • settings reset
  • new iPhone (not sigining in with Apple iCloud and no backup)

Solutions worked:

  • Third party app Lightroom to select the ultra wide camera
  • In native photo app: tele function 2x setting is able to be used with "the digital wheel"

Alright guys I have officially tried everything lol. Got my new phone in the mail today, I set it up at first with no information because I was curious.. camera worked great. Signed in with my icloud backup.. camera broken just as before. Called Apple yet again, they said to sign into my phone using Apple ID and not an iCloud backup..this worked! So if you're having this problem.. the only way to fix it is to completely erase all content & data on your phone and to set it up as new using only your Apple ID. You will lose settings, data, apps, messages etc. but not photos & contacts.

I FINALLY found the problem, and now my phone is working.

I think it's definitely because of iCloud sync.

When I failed to backup my phone settings to iCloud, wide angle button disappeared.

(I have plenty of backup storage, but 'you don't have enough space to backup' pop-up appeard. weird.)

When I delete my iCloud backup history and backup my data(success!) and camera wide angle button appeared.

(You need to restart your phone after backup complete)

I don't know why it has link with iCloud, but with some struggle, I think it's reason of problem.

I'm sure that

It's not about hardware problem, it's software problem.

I hope this will be a proper solution for others.
