launchd @ 100% CPU or more after update to 10.15.4

I updated my Mac mini (2018) to 10.15.4 today, and now launchd is consuming 100% of CPU according to Activity Monitor. Console shows that it is continuously failing to launch diskutil, as it is searching in /usr/sbin/diskutil, and apparently it no longer has access to that location. /usr/sbin/diskutil is certainly there, has read and execute permissions, and I can manually start Disk Utilities from Finder. How do I fix this?

I think the Drobo is just a symptom of the problem. You should have a file at /usr/sbin/diskutil. If not, you need to reinstall the operating system.

If you didn't already have a Time Machine backup, now would be a good time to get into the habit.

As mentioned earlier, /usr/sbin/diskutil does exist, appears to have the correct permissions, and furthermore I can start up Disk Utility from finder without any problem.

Did you install any software with the Drobo? Perhaps it is not compatible.

After further investigation, the problem is directly related to my Drobo 8D. If the Drobo 8D is detached from the system, then the messages stop. If I reattach the Drobo 8D (via TB3), then the messages start up again. I have cases open with both Apple Support and Drobo Support. This seemed to start after upgrading to macOS 10.15.4, but perhaps I just didn't notice it before.

I do have other external storage, both APFS, as well as Mac OS Extended Journaled (same as Drobo 8D volumes), but the issue does not occur with the other devices.
