I have now received a new MacBook Air 2020 but the camera quality is the same. The MacBook Air 2020 has just an incredibly bad camera. I think we are left with 3 options:

  1. Get a different computer
  2. Use your iPhone camera which needs to get connected to the MacBook Air with the help of a supporting App
  3. Buy an external webcam

I have spoken with the Apple After Sales Department. Luckily, I can return the MacBook Air 2020 and will get a new one. If the next one has the same problem, then I will return it for good. It is truly not acceptable that the HD Facetime Camera is so bad. Even more so if you need to use it for business and coaching video calls with clients.

Please check with Apple Support if you can still return the MacBook Air. Here in the EU we can return purchased items within 14-days.

This is such a terrible camera! Not HD AT ALL! And for this price - completely a rip-off. My 2015 MacBook Air camera was much clearer than this one! I am so disappointed as a long time Apple user. Apple is slowly going down the drain -- Especially at a time like this when we need quality video for business meetings - this is my worst Apple purchase ever.

I spent $2500 on a new 2020 Macbook Pro in April for remote work that uses the camera 90% of the time. My camera is so grainy that you can't even make out my features. My old cell phone from the early 2000s has a better camera than this one. My Macbook 2011 and 2009 iMac desktop has HD cameras that are far better. I am so disappointed with this and believe that Apple should do something to fix this problem. Why should I have to spend extra money for a webcam when I bought the top Apple computer. Unacceptable and there is no fix!!! I am owed a partial refund in my opinion because I did not get a computer with a camera that I can use. I am utterly embarrassed to use this thing during professional meetings and presentations. I have to keep apologizing for the poor quality. If I wanted a low quality product, I would have bought something else for half the price. NOT APPLE QUALITY!!! Look at the poor quality.

It's terrible to pay this kind of money on a brand new macbook air 2020 and have a camera that looks like a 2008 Dell PC and then have the nerve to call it HD. I've been on hold and 'dealing' with support for hours now and the only thing they can do after all the failed tech suggestions is to replace my order. I waited nearly 1 month for this one to come in and it will take 1 month for a new order and they cannot even tell me if the camera will be the same or better.

I have a ton of online classes and lessons to do especially these days and I thought having apple product should put in a comfortable position tech wise... clearly not the case here and I'm considering returning it and sticking with my 2017 Air which is 10 x more clear picture.

I spent ages in a Mac authorised store. Paid heaps of money - only for them to tell me that it is 'fine'. At first they said they'd had no other complaints. I finally got them to admit at the end that the quality was ***** and that it was the exact same camera as my Mac 2015 - and that camera was the same as their early Samsang from many years prior. What a crock. But - like most of us - in the middle of this pandemic - whose got the time to start on a whole new platform? They've got us by the proverbial. Not happy

I bought an iMac April 2020 and am having the same problem with camera. They sent me a new iMac 4 weeks later after an ordeal to send it back and I have the same problem. Its totally unacceptable to spend this kind of $$ and to have a blurry/soft FaceTime Camera. I haven't been able to get to an apple store to show anyone, they can't seem to help me on the phone and I'm out of options. Really disappointed, don't know a solution other than to return for a 2nd time!

You guys I purchased my laptop from Best Buy... so pretty much the guy on the phone at Apple was NO help he was pretty much saying that there’s nothing they can do that’s the way it is. So I said well can I return it and he told me to try it through Best Buy first I just haven’t bc it’s so much and if they tell me no I’ll be so upset it’s been past the 14 days.
