How to fix the video glitch/pixelated problem

Hi, I often encounter the glitch/pixelated frame problem in my video and need urgent help. The footage in my timeline looked fine but after I rendered the video, there was random glitch - some image frame from the earlier footage suddenly appeared which should not be there. For example, I attach below 4 images of the video frames for reference. The 1st image shows the start of the video, then suddenly an earlier frame appeared (Chaplin) as shown on the 2nd and 3rd pics which should not be there, then this wrong frames quickly disappeared, and the video continued as shown on the 4th image. I don't know why this happened. I tried to fix the problem by deleting the render file and re-export the video, re-upload the footage, switching on and off my Mac, re-start the final cut pro, it all didn't help.

I searched online but it seems nobody answers this kind of problem. So I wonder if anyone here please help me urgently?

Thanks a lot!!

Select the affected clips in the browser. Control-click on one of the selected clips and choose Transcode Media...

FCP X will always use Optimized media if it is available, otherwise it will use the original media.

NOTE: Optimized media takes significantly more space than original media.

When finished, and before you archive your library, you will want to delete it (since it can always be regenerated later if necessary).

To do that, select the library in the sidebar, and do File->Delete Generated Library Media...

Thank you Luis for your detailed instruction. I have managed to fix the issue following your advice:) I spent many hours trying to fix the problem but couldn't do it. Your kind solution is massively helpful so thank you so much!!!

P.S. Talking about space. I wonder if you can advise me if H.264 (video Codec) would be the best choice when I render the video? Please see below pic for reference. I mainly use the video on YouTube. I hope to create the high res video possible. Thanks a lot!

Hi, Luis,

Very helpful advice. I'm about to try it, as I am experiencing exactly the same problem. When you mention to select a clip, is it the clip we are aiming to keep, or the one that appears and disappears, or both?

I've seen another person suggesting to "create proxy media" instead of "optimising media". What is the difference between these two? Are we compromising or maximising quality by using one or the other?

I much appreciate your support.

Thanks a lot

Tania

I mean the clip (or clips) that exhibit the glitch. Select it (them) in the browser and create optimized media for them.

Proxy media is a smaller size, lower quality media, meant only to ease the editing process, not usually for export. It is useful when your mac can play smoothly the original. You are supposed to switch back to optimized/original before exporting - which, in the present case, would defeat the whole purpose.

Hi, Luis. Thanks a lot. I have recently changed the rate of frames per second in the settings on the new projects I create to adjust it to the rate of my camera and I find that the glitches are not occurring. The default for FinalCutProX was 23.92 but my camera films at 30. I wonder if that might be the issue for others too. Since I’ve done that I haven’t had any glitches.

thanks for the discussion everyone
