Send Midi Clock to external device?

So I am wanting to sync Garageband iOS on my iPad 7 to external midi devices.

There is an tick box which says Send Midi Clock and when I google it the support pages says "You can use MIDI clock to sync other music apps or MIDI devices to the tempo used in GarageBand when playing or recording." but there is scarce information about which device to use to send that midi data..

will something like the iRig Midi 2 enable sending Midi clock and transport controls to an external sequencer?

Does Garageband receive clock and transport from external physical devices? or can it only just send?

Obviously I would prefer not to spend $160 on a device only to find it doesn't work..

strangely enough the internet is not forthcoming in regards to this..

TLDR .. I want to sync Garageband iOS with say a Korg Volca Beats using the iPad as the master and want to know if the iRig midi 2, or something similar will facilitate this?
