Apple Watch Offline Spotify Music

Hi,

I am looking at buying the Apple Watch 5 series. I want to use it when I go for runs and not have to take my phone with me. This includes tracking my runs and listening to music. I have Spotify Premium - is there a way to listen to songs on the Apple Watch 5 GPS only whilst on my run. Can I download my Spotify playlists to the watch.

I just got the Apple watch specifically with the hopes that I can work out and listen to Spotify without my phone. I didn't realize this was not an option and am so disappointed I am considering returning the watch. Ugh.

I’m so confused. Before I purchased an Iwatch a few days ago I specifically called Apple to ask if I can listen to Spotify offline and the Apple consultant gave a resounding yes! He said I can download up to 500 songs on to the watch and run without taking my phone with me. So I’ve now bough The watch - and I can’t. Now what?

To be clean. There is no Spotify support way to listen to their music on your Apple Watch.

Spotify does not support streaming in any form.

Spotify does not support offline playback, but there are hacks. fieryjack gave you a pointer.

The following are other ways to listen to music on your Apple Watch:

except the article is wrong that 3rd parties cannot stream to the Apple Watch. Pandora does. Spotify has just not released an app that will do it. It is up to Spotify to provide support.

From an article on Wareable:

Spotify on Apple Watch: Features not supported yet

4G streaming

Right now, the Spotify app offers no LTE streaming straight from the Apple Watch to a pair of headphones. And we wouldn’t hold your breath on that arriving any time soon.

Offline playback

Another major unsupported feature is the inability to store music on your Apple Watch and listen offline. That means runners or underground commuters, for example, can’t store playlists on the Apple Watch for when they're on the move.

We’d suspect this will be the next feature to drop, but there’s no timescale on when that might happen.

I was in a similar situation. What I did was cancel spotify and switched over to apple music, which allows you to store music on the watch offline so you can run without your phone.

I used the songshift app to convert all my spotify playlists over to apple music playlists which was actually really easy, and been using it the past year. Spotify is better imo then apple music, it was worth it to me to workout without my phone.

I chatted with Spotify today and asked why isn't offline playback supported with Apple Watch GPS? TO which they replied: "But don't worry, you have a great idea with you. This feature should also be included in Apple watch, and they'll be more than happy to hear your idea about this. Hopefully, they'll make this possible in the near future."

How many years has the community been asking for this to be supported? Spotify has all my playlists so I refuse to switch to Apple Music. I guess I will just torrent .MP3 and manually load them onto my Apple Watch. I'm not paying for music I already paid to listen to just because companies want to push their own platforms onto the customer.

Spotify is a direct competitor with Apple and is suing Apple in the EU. Apple has opened the watchOS to 3rd party streaming companies, Pandora has just such an app. But if you look in the Watch App Store you will find that Spotify does not have one. It is up to them to do so, Apple has provided the means. And they lied to you on the conversation you had, they know that they can do an app if they want.

And this is my complaint. That i was given blatant false info into buying something. I purchased it from John Lewis not from Apple, so I’m unable to return it. But I don’t understand the point of having a ‘genius’ teams to talk through the products and then provide completely inaccurate information. I asked how I go about writing a complaint about it. It took three hours, and three different Different people to tell me to WRITE A LETTER to ireland. Baffling

Hmm, not tried that one, but I guess they are not as well established as Spotify. Anyways, just a wild guess from my side. Quite sure that it’s not a programming issue. More about the rights.

I consider the Apple Music just to have access to my offline music on the watch. The cost is basically the same, 10$ a month wit unlimited streaming. Then again, my whole Spotify library lost if I transfer. Not sure if Apple Music offers the same amount of songs either...
