Another major unsupported feature is the inability to store music on your Apple Watch and listen offline. That means runners or underground commuters, for example, can’t store playlists on the Apple Watch for when they're on the move.

We’d suspect this will be the next feature to drop, but there’s no timescale on when that might happen.

Hi, there is no offline playback support for the Spotify application on Apple Watch. The current version merely works like a remote for Spotify so it is useless unless you have internet connection. I'm super disappointed about this, hope an update is coming soon to fix this :(

Nope. Apple is very anti competitive and make you use Apple Music to do that. You can only stream Spotify. A work around, you can sync music you own from a laptop to your phone and then sync the playlist/songs from your phone to the watch locally.

It is Spotify's decision, not Apple's.

Pandora, a competitor, supports streaming, offline playback, Siri integration, etc...

I was in a similar situation. What I did was cancel spotify and switched over to apple music, which allows you to store music on the watch offline so you can run without your phone.

I used the songshift app to convert all my spotify playlists over to apple music playlists which was actually really easy, and been using it the past year. Spotify is better imo then apple music, it was worth it to me to workout without my phone.

It is up to Spotify to offer their platform on the Apple Watch.

Pandora has done it, so it is possible for a other 3rd parties (aka Spotify) to do it as well.

Spotify does not even make their playlists available for offline listening on the Apple Watch, and again Pandora also offers this service.

Even if you have cellular, you can’t play it offline 😰 you can only play Apple Music offline even with cellular. I was disappointed because I, like you, have most of my music on Spotify. My only saving grace was that my parents have Apple Music and we’re on a family plan. So if want to do that, you can download some of your workout playlists on Apple Music and then play it with or without data

No, you cannot use Spotify to store music on an Apple Watch for offline playback. Apple Watch supports doing so, as Pandora’s Watch app can. Spotify seems to be refusing to add support for one reason or another.

I chatted with Spotify today and asked why isn't offline playback supported with Apple Watch GPS? TO which they replied: "But don't worry, you have a great idea with you. This feature should also be included in Apple watch, and they'll be more than happy to hear your idea about this. Hopefully, they'll make this possible in the near future."

How many years has the community been asking for this to be supported? Spotify has all my playlists so I refuse to switch to Apple Music. I guess I will just torrent .MP3 and manually load them onto my Apple Watch. I'm not paying for music I already paid to listen to just because companies want to push their own platforms onto the customer.

Spotify is a direct competitor with Apple and is suing Apple in the EU. Apple has opened the watchOS to 3rd party streaming companies, Pandora has just such an app. But if you look in the Watch App Store you will find that Spotify does not have one. It is up to them to do so, Apple has provided the means. And they lied to you on the conversation you had, they know that they can do an app if they want.

it has been over a year for the watch app and spotify still have to support offline playing in apple watch. i waited and then moved on! you should too, man.

No, this is a Spotify business decision. It might be a decision based on Apple App Store policies, but it is not a technical issue.

Pandora allows offline playlists being transferred to the Apple Watch.

music you actually own (or managed to get on your iPhone), independent of Apple Music, can be transferred to your Apple Watch (for example, you have transferred Music CDs to your iPhone via your personal computer, or some other means of transferring music to your iPhone.

Apple Music is not the only way to get music on your Apple Watch.

This is literally the only reason why I bought the watch!!! And it doesn’t work. One of many ways Apple is pushing people towards Apple Music rather than Spotify.

I return my Apple Watch also. Spotify can’t download music to the watch. I return to my Garmin Fenix 6 pro with is poor display quality but great functionalities
