How do I convert .wav to .mp3 on import to music.app?

This functionality seems to have been stripped out of music.app. I can set import preferences to mp3, but then File>Import totally ignores the fact that I set them up to import as .mp3.

Used to work on iTunes without even thinking about it.

Hi,

My understanding is that the file>import settings only applies to music being imported from CDs. You will need an external app such as XLD to convert the tracks.

However, once you have added the tracks to iTunes/ Music you can covert them to mp3.
