Beats Studio 3 Cracking

Hello,

Just wondering if anyone has had issues with these headphones? I have the studio 3 (skyline collection I believe) and I barely use these things and they do not leave the case on my desk. I've already had a replacement, but I now see that my new pair is breaking as well. It's in the area right above the ear cup, the plastic just beneath the expandable band part is cracking. I mean, I have a big head, but I cannot believe this build quality. Anyone else experienced this?

I have the exact same issue. I also have a big head (I wear a 7 1/2 hat size, big but not enormous) and both sides of the headphones cracked in the exact same spots after having the headphones since December 2019. I sent them in for repair under the limited warranty and was denied. They asked for $199 USD for the repair cost since this was "customer abuse" even though the damage came from simple widening the headphones to put them on. I told them that many others online reported experiencing this exact issue and this is a design flaw, but they said unless Apple comes forward and starts accepting repairs for this particular reason then they would not cover this under the limited warranty.

I'm extremely disappointed that such an expensive product would break down physically as a result of its intended use so quickly. Currently looking for somewhere where I can submit product feedback about Beats. Hopefully Apple recognizes that they are selling a very faulty product.

I have owned THREE Beats Studio 3. Why three? Because it all cracked above the ear parts but I loved this model. So I just kept wasting my money on this low quality item.

I never dropped any of them but all three got cracks same place.

Apple denied my warranty claim because of the tiny crack I was not aware of (and could not even see because it was locates right inside the ear cup), although the headphone had issue with sound and other issues.

The headphones look nice but the durability is a joke!

I have the same issue w/ my beats studio 3 -- it just seems like the plastic became (or always was) extremely brittle.

Just for more information I googled around to see if I could get a replacement part if it would be cheaper.

There's a page here w/ the part in question and youtube videos on how to do the fix --- it's a beast of a repair process, this has got to be a design / engineering / parts flaw in these headphones. (sigh)

Just happened to me today also, cracked/shattered the plastic just above the ear cup right side. The kicker for me is this happened while inside the case in my backpack. Pulled them out and broken plastic spilled out.

Fitted hats I wear a 7 5/8, so larger head. I am disappointed that $200 headphones would break like this. I have 10 year old technic 1200s that are still in working order that made it through countless parties while used to dj. Just replaced the leather on the cans and they're good as new.

I used electrical tape to wrap up the breakage so hopefully that will hold it together as mine are definitely out of warranty. I find the beats more comfortable and they have bluetooth, but this quality issue should be addressed.

Personally, they look like they changed the build quality and the look like they are constructed in a way you won't have to worry about it... However, they price tag still has me sticker shock over them.... Honestly I just got a pair of Bose H700's and that's where it's at for me!!.... Still an Apple Fan to an extent, however those Bose H700's put the Beats to Shame......

Hi,

I was sure I replied to this, sorry for the delay. The manager did not say he was aware of the issues. Just that they sometimes have programs that they set up in response to issues reported on these discussion groups - he went to check on that; I continuously maintained my position that I am considering this a manufacturing defect and I had not dropped them or accidentally damaged them - as well as I understand they cannot fix it if it is accidental damage - just insisted on transferring me to manager and to look on the discussion group at least before replying. Had to convince several people to get to him and yeah I think I got lucky - he took personal responsibility for my case. Hopefully, with more posts on here, they will respond seriously to the issue.

Update: the "helpful" Senior Advisor decided it's a user issue--not a manufacturer's defect. I referred her to this Page and she referred me to apple.com/feedback (which doesn't include Beats).

I can pay them $376 for repair (more than the price of a new set of Bose).

Should I duct-tape the cracks to protect my scalp? Yeah, she agreed.

I added my own comments to the Twitter comments shown in an earlier post here...

Same issue here in South Africa. First it was one side which had a small crack, and I thought maybe I did something wrong. Then today, the other side started cracking. I noticed that the inner adjustment plate pushes against this plastic as you open the cups to put on your head. Istore is giving me a hard time about it claiming it is mechanical damage and my fault. I refuse to accept that, and I’ll show them this thread.

For Christmas, I bought my wife AirPods Pro, and they did not work out of the box. After 2 weeks they eventually replaced them. So disappointed with Apple quality.

My kid has broken 3 of these and is not because he mistreat them. He loves them and use them extremely often (more than I will want) , some of the cracks I have been able to repair myself buying the parts and following instructions, but some others it is impossible since it will requiring removing electronic components from the board, just to replace a hinge. I am done with Beats and we will be looking for new brand better design and same or better sound quality.

We have the same problem - 3 pairs, same cracks from normal use, no accidents. Can't wait for a class action to come along but we will probably not get enough to replace them all.

My son got fed up and went with a pair of Sony WH-1000XM4 and he really likes them. about the same price as the Studio 3 and sound quality is great and guess what? -- they are NOT falling apart!
