charging wire frayed from physical torsion

for your information, this is the 2012 13" MacBook pro charger

Hello,

Recently I discovered that the insulation for my charging cable wire was twisted open and the metal conducting wire within was bent out of its original shape. This was probably caused by the wheels on my chair rolling over the wire. The damage is located near the magnetic charging component of the charger. I've attached pictures below describing the damage. As you can see, there are no visible tears (just twists) in the metal wire. But even if there was a tear, would it be that much of a risk if I just shrink-tubed it after putting on some electrical tape?

Thank you for your time

In case you were wondering the outer conductor shields the ones within it, preventing electromagnetic radiation from causing interference with other devices. It's always twisted—wound in a sprial or braided for flexibility, and to prevent it from breaking too easily when subjected to repeated bends. So are the conductors within it; you just don't see them.

Your picture does not show that it's broken.

The failure was not due to torsion, just damage from having been run over by an office chair, a common affliction. Your repair is perfectly ok.
