Have just purchased a new MacBook Air (2020 model). Have bought to use for home working (Zoom meetings, etc) and the image is really grainy when using Zoom or FaceTime. Is this normal with Macs?

i've just taken delivery of my MBA 2020 and the camera image is so terrible I am not sure what to do about the machine now. I paid to have a ton of upgrades so overall this was a £1800 machine. The camera is about the worst i have seen since laptops started coming with in-built cameras. I hope, Apple, you find that damning... but i suspect you won't care. The web is awash with similar complaints. To see someone commenting saying wipe the screen and check your internet connection; it's just offensive. The camera quality is so bad in low light that i can barely even recognise myself. I joined a video call the other night and everyone was commenting about how bad it was, unprompted. I genuinely don't know if I will keep this macbook... i feel like it will be my last, at least, if this is the type of thing we can expect. Apple support were meant to call me back this evening to discuss it but what a surprise, they didn't.
I recently bought the MacBook Air and when I tell you this camera is SO GRAINY, Im serious. Its horrible and I regret buying.
I have realised that I have a very poor quality on my MacBook Air compared to my husbands iPad Air, is there anything that I can do about this please
For my surprise... colours and quality in general was better on my MacBook Air 2014 than on my new 2020.
Same thing here... my 2014 had a better image than my 2020 MacBook Air
So was it a hardware issue with that item specifically or did you have to change models?
I'm having the same issue with my new 2020 MacBook Air.
All right. I hope they can fix it with some macOS update soon.
But at the end, did you ask for your money back and stay with or previous MacBook or did you change it for another model?
Same thing here... the camera image quality of my Mac air 2014 was much better than my brand-new 2020. Unbelievable !!!

My image is very grainy. I see others’ images are quite sharp ! Wish this can be resolved!!
I have the same issue. MacBook Air 2020. Just upgraded from an old MacBook Air 2014 and when I run the two webcams side-by-side the old one is crystal clear HD, the new one looks like 360p
The webcam isn't great, but grinyness goes away with good lighting, try and get close to a light source and the quality should magically improve a LOT
Yeah, I think the quality is worse than my 2014 MacBook Air. Really bummed that this is my experience, especially with all the touted upgrades like the M1 chip.
