Fan intermittently running high MacBook air

Hi,

The fan on my early 2015 MacBook air is intermittently running high.

I have tried SMC reset twice and still have the issue. Have ran a diagnostics test with no problems. Mac doesn't feel hot at all. Often the lid will be closed but computer is still on and the fan will just start running high.

does the fan need to be cleaned or possibly replaced?

Any advice would be much appreciated!!

The fans in Mac notebooks are always running. If they are running high, then there is a reason. If the fans are noisy regardless of RPM, then they may need cleaning. If they are intermittently running fast, and it's not due to heating, then there could be a faulty sensor or SMC chip. That would require a visit to an Apple Store.

Using Activity Monitor

Use Activity Monitor on your Mac

Runaway applications can shorten battery runtime, affect performance, and increase heat and fan activity.

Using Activity Monitor Part 1- CPU and Memory

Using Activity Monitor Part 2- Energy, Disk, and Network
