Apple Superdrive

Hello. My recently purchased Apple Superdrive works fine with my MacBook Air, but ONLY if I restart the computer with the drive connected. Should it not be "plug and play"? I have tried resetting the SMC and the PRAM, to no avail. Is there a solution someone can offer?

Did it come with a power brick to plug in? If it did, then you need to connect it for the drive to be detected. If it gets power from the USB-C port, then it gets power when the computer is running. If it doesn't, then contact Apple Support for a solution.
