Macbook pro not charging and overheating

Hello everyone. I hope you are all well.

In February, I bought myself a new MacBook Pro 13". For the first month of using it, I was very happy. It worked like a dream. However, over the past month, I have been having some problems with it.

It seems to overheat and run out of battery very quickly. The first time it happened was 3/4 weeks ago. I finished using it for the day. The battery was 3/4 full. I shut it down and went to bed. The next morning I woke up to use it and it wouldn't come on. Instead it came up with the empty battery symbol. I plugged it in to charge and this did nothing. I plugged it into the different plug sockets around my house; same problem. I left it a few hours plugged in to see if it would charge, and it didn't. I gave up and began using my old laptop as I had work to do. Over the next few days I kept trying to see if it would turn on. It didn't. Eventually, on the 4th day of trying it came on and worked fine.... for 2 days and then the same thing happened again.

This time I contacted Apple Chat. They were very friendly and polite but their solutions did not work. By this time, the whole coronavirus pandemic had begun and Apple had closed their stores in the UK, so I was unable to take it in for them to take a look at it. I decided to wait another day to see if it would work again, and bingo! It came on and worked fine ... for another 2 days before the same thing happened again. I did the same thing as before. I plugged it in the various plug sockets around my house to see if it charged. It didn't. So I put it away somewhere safe and decided to check on it 2-4 days time. When I did, it worked again! But this time only for a day, before the same thing happened again.

I repeated the process and it began to work again. But this time it lasted a few hours before shutting down on me. This has happened 6/7 times now and, as you can probably imagine, it is getting very frustrating. I have noticed that, when using the laptop, it gets ridiculously hot. I think this may have something to do with it.

As soon as this coronavirus thing is over, I will be taking it straight back to Apple to see if they can fix it, or give me a refund because this should not be happening. At the moment I can only use it twice a week, and only for an hour or 2 before it runs out of battery. I'm hoping that there is a suggestion some one can make as to how I can stop the Macbook from overheating and to fix the batter problem.

Has anyone else had this situation? If so, what did you do to fix it? Is there anything I can do to fix it? If anyone needs any further information, please tell me and I'll try to give it you. Any help any one can give me would be very much appreciated, as I am beginning to lose my temper with it! Thanks.

No where do you state what exact MacBook Pro 13" is this?

You do state what is you have tried, what "solutions" ?

For battery management Try resetting the SMC https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201295

is fundamental.

—see if you qualify:

—See if this is your machine:

If your MacBook Pro (13-inch, 2019, Two Thunderbolt 3 ports) keeps shutting down

You only have 14 days to return a new purchase for a full refund or exchange, after that any issue fall under a warranty repair. No exceptions here.

please advise...

Hello jab_2020,

Thanks for that info and for choosing the Apple Support Communities. If I understand correctly, you are having an issue with your MacBook Pro not charging and running out of battery faster than expected and being warmer than expected. To help with this, please see if the steps in these Apple resources, including running the built-in Apple Diagnostics tool, help with your situation:

About Mac notebook batteries

How to use Apple Diagnostics on your Mac

Apple Diagnostics: Reference codes

Keep your Mac notebook within acceptable operating temperatures

Cheers!

Hello,

Thank you for your speedy reply. I have tried everything that you suggested and for a short while, I thought I had fixed it; however, yesterday evening, it shut down midway through me using it. The battery was 3/4 full when I was using it, but as I tried to restart it, it says it had run out of battery. I tried charging it, but it was the same problem. I am very fed up of it to be honest with you. Do you have any other suggestions I can try? Or, shall I just wait till the stores re-open? (Whenever that may be).
