AMPArtworkAgent using 90% CPU

Anyone else seeing this? Yes, I have let it run over very long periods of time to make sure it has completely got my library first. Despite that, every time I use Music OSX, the AMPArtworkAgent end up eating my CPU alive (90+% CPU usage, fans running high speed).

In general, it seems like the OSX version of Music is the unwanted stepchild of Music. Google search for any answers and all you get is iOS advice. I use Music while I'm working on my Macs, and would like this application to be a whole lot more robust and less buggy...... I'm a paying subscriber, and almost ready to go back to Spotify, which has it's own set of issues, but a **** of a lot more developed than Music seems to be!

Well, as the OP, I’m happy (sort of) to see that it’s not just me with this issue. As was suggested above, the issue seems to come and go: it won’t show for along time, and then show up every time I use Music.

So far, I have to say that the suggestion of not using Mini-player seems closest to correct. I’ve been using just the main window for about a week and haven’t had a single occurrence .... so far. But, I really prefer to use mini-player for a variety of reasons. If this many people are seeing it, maybe Apple will wake up and fix it!!

Sorry. Looking at the timestamps, I assumed you were referring to my earlier post's statement that I'd report back in a few days. FWIW, I never use MiniPlayer but I'll check back in next week to report how it's going for me.

Yes if you just use the normal Music window instead of the mini player/artwork window it’s much better.

0 CPU usage for AMP, very low memory consumption, and maybe 2-4% CPU for Music.

Same issue here. Starts after about 10-15 minutes of Apple Music playback. Super lame Apple.

AMPArtworkAgent also seems to have a pretty big memory leak. Activity monitor says it is using ~1GB but when I force quit it the memory used drops by 10GB-30GB.

Has anyone confirmed that not using the MiniPlayer solves this problem? AMPArtworkAgent and AMPLibraryAgent keep killing CPU like crazy whenever I play music.

A few hours after writing this, I decided to just rebuild the library by turning the Sync Library preference (Catalina) off and back on again. Did the trick for me.

Rebuilding my library didn't solve the problem. The fix for me was to stop using MiniPlayer mode.

So after a little over a week, I'm still not seeing the previous high CPU usage from AMPArtworkAgent and its related processes. Looks like the rebuild worked for me.

Thanks for the update Doug. I'm glad you are able to have a no/low CPU usage listening experience. ;-) I wasn't as fortunate but my remedy of not using the mini player continues to serve me well.
