I did some additional tests.

Before rebooting IPAD, IOS tries 2 times to reach thermalmonitord service, every 60 seconds.

It then creates 2 Stack+thermalmonitord logs and then it crashes creating the panic-full log the third time

In my case sensor TG0B is not reachable. This morning I noticed that the charging connector was really dirty so i cleaned it up with a toothpick. After that I tested ipad for hours and i didn't have a single issue for a first time since weeks

Sadly, this evening it started againg to reboot randomly (same problem).

My opinion is that there is something on flex cable that is wrong. Cleaning or replacing it will probably solve the problem. The spare part itself is really cheap but it's not easy to replace with a new one (soldering skills are needed), and apple will not do this for you.

Probably with new IOS versions they changed the way how thermalmonitord watchdog handles the system. Is possible that we had the stack+thermlamonitord logs even before, but they did not cause the reboot.

I updated to 14.3 today.

Even with 14.2, since i cleaned up the charging connector the frequency of random reboot has dramatically decreased, but I still have them.

We will see after this update.

Anyway if they did not change the way how thermal watchdog interacts with the system, there will be probably additional problems.

I honestly do not want to give apple 500 euro, when the fact that this sensor is sometimes unreachable doesn't change anything. So, even if it's hardware issue, this is 100% negligible.

Moreover ipad pro 10.5 is still a beast in terms of performances, and I have no intentions to replace it.

For me it's randomic, can also occur with netflix.

in my case the thermalmonitord error gives a missing sensor: TG0B, that should be related to battery gas gauge. Is it 100% possible that when cpu work faster, more power is asked from battery and this sensor sometimes fails to be detected by watchdog service, causing a system reboot.

But before replacing battery i need to be sure, and apparently there is no way, because no one would risk to open up my ipad to check...

I didi the exact same procedure last week, and did however not have any success. Did a factory Reset via Mac, and then testet the 'RAW' ipad without restoring my content (to see if my Data and Apps were causing the problem). The 'RAW' ipad however kept restarting in 5 Minute intervals, just like before. I then restored my content, and as was to be expected: everything as before.

It's funny: yesterday evening i could use the ipad for 30 minutes without restarts. After that it restarted every 5 minutes. This morning it restarted every 5 minutes.

A tricky bug. Am curious to find out if your iPad returns to it's restaring patern after a while of use.

That’s a shame. So far mine’s been stable for 20 hours. Will post back here. if it does fall into its old ways.

Apart from the fw ‘update’ though the only other difference for me is that I no longer have a red badge in Settings telling me I haven’t backed up for 4 months.

Anyone else with back-up issues.

Ultimately though this is clearly a software / device compatibility issue. Despite my problem being fixed I still find it massively frustrating is that the corresponding *thermalmonitord* diagnosis isn’t getting passed up the chain.

Good luck in your quests...

Have already escalated to senior more possible level .. shave talked to them on phone almost 5-7 time’s .. 3 to 4 hrs but no benefit ... they are not taking any responsibility and just putting it on hardware with offer of almost 90% value of new iPad to exchange with new which is quite a bit loot .

the most irresponsible support I have even seen is Apple .

i would hope that developers would be furiously analyzing crash logs to determine what was changed in the IOS to cause this issue and to develop a quick fix.

Rendering many $800+ machines literally useless in order to add a few unnecessary, cute IOS features is completely incomprehensible and heinous. Many of our affected iPads are less than 3 years old.

It seems absurd to me to send the unit to Apple for another $500 to “fix” the iPad. What is Apple going to do with them? They clearly don’t understand the problem.
