Reconnecting Ethernet Adapter - Prioritize Ethernet over WiFi

I have a MacBook Pro 15" 2018 with a Belkin USB-C Ethernet adapter. When I disconnect the laptop and use it for WiFi everything works just fine, but when I connect the Ethernet adapter back up, I have to reboot the MacBook in order to use the Ethernet connection again. Is this normal behavior? Is this exclusive to the Belkin USB-C Ethernet adapter? How can I utilize the Ethernet connection WITHOUT needing to reboot to establish this connection again? Just seems 'odd'...
