rename macintosh hd

Your partner should have prepared the computer to be given away by following this Apple article:

I highly recommend you do this so the OS is clean and only your stuff is on the computer.

So, describe what happens if you right-click on the Macintosh HD, select "Get Info," and try to change the name in the "Name & Extension" field of the Info window.

That clarifies what you are attempting to change. You can use the steps listed in: Change the name of your macOS user account and home folder - Apple Support, but please heed the warning listed...

Just click on the name field of the "Macintosh HD," when the color of the name field is "bolded," click again, and enter your desired name.

You can also right-click on the Macintosh HD, select "Get Info," and change the name in the "Name & Extension" field of the Info window.
