Unresponsive screen after update

I updated the software on my iPhone x last night and as soon as it finished my screen became unresponsive to the touch. The side and volume buttons work fine, it’s still receiving messages and notifications, and generally seems to be working just fine other than the fact the screen is not recognizing touch. For just a moment last night and again today my phone finally started working just long enough to get past the lock screen but stopped again soon after. What should I do? I’ve read online that I should reset it but I can’t unfortunately because it won’t let me do anything except adjust volume and tease me with phone calls and texts I cannot answer or respond to. Help
