Using iPad as remote for presentation on Keynote

The iPad remote function is amazing on Keynote and I love how you can use the laser pointer or draw on the slides while presenting. However, during my presentation the presentation screen would go black while everything on my iPad was still there. The only way I could fix it was to exit presentation and then re-enter presentation. I had to do this every 5 minutes or so. Is anyone else experiencing the same problem?
