Unable to make purchases in Pokémon GO

When attempting to purchase Pokécoins in Pokémon Go app, I receive the following error message: “something went wrong. Please try again later.” I have rest my phone, ensured no restrictions are enabled, changed my Pokémon Go password, and turned on/off my WiFi. Still the error message persists.

OMG OMG I turned off Apple Cash and it worked - You were right!!! Except in my case, Apple Pay is still on, but Apple Cash is off.

First, I removed my bank account from Apple Cash, and removed PayPal from the payment methods for iTunes, and only left the Apple Credit card in the wallet and iTunes, and then I shut off Apple Cash.

Then I tried to make a purchase in the PoGo shop and it worked!!

I think the bank account definitely has something to do with it, because today my bank literally SHUT OFF my debit card without even asking me if the $1.00 purchase for the PoGo ticket was fraud. They just shut it off. And I got a push notification on my phone that the debit card was no longer available for making purchases. And the debit card was tied to Apple Cash. OMG this Apple payment system is SO MESSED UP.

BUT IT WORKED!!!

I had a temp solution that was working, that was to sign out of Media and Purchases. This would force a sign-in when buying the coins, but worked. For a while. Then it started to take my money and not give me coins, providing me with an in-game error message that I had already made this purchase and they would refund me. Well, the transaction hit and went through, and Apple refused to refund me. I still have to stay signed out of Media and Purchases to select an item, and have to buy my coins on an Android device. Aggravating, but it works out that way, at least. This honestly is something Niantic needs to work out with Apple, but they are not acknowledging the issue and letting it get worse and affect more people.

use android phone if you have any spare or just purchase cheap samsung phone.

I realized that you can actually download two pokemon go officially (it's not a hack or abusing their terms), so really good if you have any alt accounts.

Also, from time to time, if you purchase coins from the pokemon go app you downloaded from the galaxy store (not the google play store), they do have 10% off so you can purchase $100 coins for $90.

Right there with you. I have $51 in charges between coins and GoFest charges that Apple is refusing to refund despite me providing documentation from Niantic that it didn’t go thru. Definitely the worst customer service I’ve received from Apple. They basically told me to screw off they weren’t going to reconsider. I was able to buy a ticket for GoFest by using my wife’s phone and her iTunes account to buy my ticket. I still can’t make any purchases using my iPhone or my iTunes account. I even tried from an old iPhone I had and it still doesn’t work. To add insult to injury Niantic support went offline over a week ago which closed my support ticket. Before the ticket closed they acknowledged they were getting reports of the error on iOS but told me to just use a different iCloud account & phone. Ridiculous.

so far I have used her phone/Apple ID 3x successfully, without effecting her account. But it is something I have been concerned about. I suppose it’s a gamble. I also tried to create a new Apple ID and use my main phone with the new ID and that didn’t work either. So far I have only had success using a different phone with a different Apple ID that has never been used with my Pokémon Go account in the past.

If they deny your refund and you try to challenge the denial they will just tell you that their decision is final and there is no possibility of them changing the decision. I spent over an hour on the phone with a Senior advisor who claimed both that there was no one above him to reconsider and that he played Pokémon Go and fully understood that it was an error. Even with that he said there is no mechanism for anyone to override a denied claim even if it becomes evident it should be refunded. He gave me a physical address to send a complaint letter to in Cupertino. We also both agree it’s a programming error on Niantic’s part, but Apple is unwilling to help try to fix it. The advisor indicated that it’s likely refund requests are being declined as Niantic won’t refund Apple so Apple won’t refund the customer. All of it is a total cluster f. I don’t even care about the money, I just want to be able to make purchases again...
