Unable to make purchases in Pokémon GO

When attempting to purchase Pokécoins in Pokémon Go app, I receive the following error message: “something went wrong. Please try again later.” I have rest my phone, ensured no restrictions are enabled, changed my Pokémon Go password, and turned on/off my WiFi. Still the error message persists.

OMG OMG I turned off Apple Cash and it worked - You were right!!! Except in my case, Apple Pay is still on, but Apple Cash is off.

First, I removed my bank account from Apple Cash, and removed PayPal from the payment methods for iTunes, and only left the Apple Credit card in the wallet and iTunes, and then I shut off Apple Cash.

Then I tried to make a purchase in the PoGo shop and it worked!!

I think the bank account definitely has something to do with it, because today my bank literally SHUT OFF my debit card without even asking me if the $1.00 purchase for the PoGo ticket was fraud. They just shut it off. And I got a push notification on my phone that the debit card was no longer available for making purchases. And the debit card was tied to Apple Cash. OMG this Apple payment system is SO MESSED UP.

BUT IT WORKED!!!

My friend also received two payments when buying a ticket on Community Day Friday and got the symptom of error 3. There were certainly two payments left in the App Store purchase history at the same time. It could easily refund the second payment by reporting the issue. This can be completed only by the operation from the application without going through Apple's support. After finishing the request for a refund, I shot a screenshot of their purchase history from the game inquiry and sent it to Niantic. If you have a good reply, I will tell you. Refunding the ticket alone will not recover your purchase at the shop.

Terrible news for anyone who has been following my replies which indicated it was "fixed"

Short of the long is, its back.......

And the culprit was AGAIN a community event. This time the Magikarp (originally it was Ghastly). Basically TWO purchased for the 99cent event. First failed. Second "worked" on Thurs.

Today for the first day I attempted to buy coins since GoFest. Purchase to buy coins returned the dreaded error. Now account is broken again. Worse news is, the "fix" I tried before did NOT work this time. Sucks.

One interesting experiment this time that I didn't do the last time - after the issue returned, I deleted ALL payment methods from my iTunes account. Logged out of my iTunes ID. Went to PoGo and literally clicking on buy something returns the error.

Why do I think important? Because I now believe the issue is 99% Niantec's and not Apple's. I never got a message like "hey idiot, you aren't logged into iTunes" or "hey idiot, you don't have a payment method associated to an iTunes account."

I randomly then went into the Apple App store and tried to buy a random app. And guess what, you get both of those messages that you aren't logged in nor have a payment method.

So, I believe Niantic is the problem. And i hope the fix it :(

Hello, this has happened to me as well. I’m a level 40 player who’s been at it since the game came out in 2016. I began to have the error message (3) and started being unable to purchase poke coins during Go Fest (so frustrating since I couldn’t do any of the amazing legendary raids). I bought the $100 poke coin amount and the coins did not appear I first approached Nianti. You imagine how that went. They thought I had a problem with raids and didn’t even answer the right question. I discovered that the $100

poke coin purchase went thru on Apple’s end. I showed Niantic the receipt and still they did nothing. Thankfully when I approached Apple, they did refund the $100 bit I still can’t buy coins.

i still can’t buy coins. One time I used my husbands phone and his Apple ID. It did work but then never worked again. I have installed and uninstalled the app and created and tries to use a new Apple ID on multiple devices to no avail. Below is Niantic’s last flippant response.

Received another email this morning from apple denying my credit refund. I am over it at this point. I received some valuable information from another player in this forum who stated that he was able to purchase items on his wife’s phone using her Apple ID. On her phone he signed her out, signed himself in under his user name and was able to purchase coins. I did that last night myself on my husband’s iPhone and it worked. I was able to purchase with no problem. My husband’s account is fine and still works after that. I will be doing that from now on until this whole thing is fixed....whenever that will be.

Hope this works for others.

Yeah that hasn’t worked for me either. I have $51 worth of in-game purchases that haven’t been credited in game but I have been charged for. Niantic is saying they show no record of the purchases and Apple is refusing to refund them even with evidence from Niantic. I still can’t make new purchases, and neither Apple nor Niantic really seem to care or be willing to help.

Shocking to hear this has been going on since April! I just started getting this error with the Purchase of Safari Zone. Also stuck in the middle between Niantic and Apple on $39.99 coin purchase. Niantic says it didn’t go through, Apple says they won’t refund. Sent documention to each of them with no resolution. So frustrating I’m considering giving up the game, and maybe Apple too. 😡

I thought highly of Apple before this experience, both their products and support. Despite my documentation from Niantic stating that the transaction didn’t go through, Just like you, they denied the refund and appeal. The would not give me a specific reason for the denial, just a link to their policy. And said they understood not all customers would be happy with their resolution. Good to know it’s ok with them for me to be unhappy that I paid money and got nothing in return.
