Thunderbolt to HDMI adapter for mid-2011 iMac

I have a mid-2011 Mac, with 1 thunderbolt port, that I want to connect to an external monitor via HDMI. What type adapter do I need? Would a Mini Display Port adapter work?

Mini-display port to HDMI adapter. Connect a Mini Display Port cable to the iMac, plug the cable into the adapter and the HDMI cable into the external display.

Thanks. So, to confirm, the mini display port cable will work when plugged into the thunderbolt port? (it doesn't only work with mini display ports?)
