Wrist detection disables notifications

I was getting notifications (messages, alerts, etc.) on my Apple Watch series 5 until recently it stopped. I did some research and one site suggested turning off wrist detection and I started getting notifications again. I tried restarting both watch and iPhone, and checking all my notification setting, do not disturb, and other suggestions. Is my watch defective, or is it a software issue?

Thanks,

Steve

Wrist detection should be turned on, and then as long as your watch is being worn and unlocked, you will get notifications. If you take the Watch off, you will no longer get notifications on the Watch, you will get them on the iPhone. That is how they are supposed to work. Do you get notifications on your iPhone? Have you checked all of the notification settings for your Watch on the Watch app on the iPhone? What troubleshooting have you tried? I would first restart the Watch. Press and hold the Digital Crown and the power button together until you see the Apple logo and then release. The Watch will reboot. After you unlock it and it has had a moment to connect, swipe upwards from the bottom of the screen to open the Control Center. Check in the upper left corner to see if you see the green iPhone icon to show that it is connected to the iPhone. Does the screen light up when you lift your wrist? If not, then while you are in Control Center, makes sure that Theater Mode is not turned on. It is the icon with the 2 face masks, it will be yellow if on. And check silent mode, it is the bell. It will be red with a line through it if it is on.

So, if wrist detection is turned off, you are getting notifications on your Watch? I'm sorry, but none of that makes any sense. I'm not saying you are not correct about the behavior, what I'm saying is that it should not be working like that. Something else is very wrong with the way your notifications are working, and I cannot think of any other solutions.
