Why is the standard dictation function better at understanding than voice control? Could this be fixed?
The standard dictation function seems to be much better at understanding sentences than voice control. In particular, it looks like it better takes the context into account, leading to fewer errors, for example on homophones. I suspect this is because voice control has to actively listen for specific commands, and is therefore slower and less accurate. Voice Control also seems to not always recognise text fields, where the standard dictation functionality always does. When the text field isn't recognised, I have two open TextEdit, dictate there, and then copy and paste into the application I am using. That takes a considerable amount of time.
Maybe would it be possible to circumvent this problem by having a Voice control keyword that would enable dictation. Saying "start dictation" would launch the standard dictation program. This would make dictating with voice control more accurate, and would avoid that text fields aren't recognised.
Catalina has brought many major improvements in voice control, and this is wonderful. There is still progress to be made though, and I hope Apple intends many major improvements in voice control, and this is wonderful. There is still a lot of progress to be made though, and I hope Apple intends to keep on that track.
