trouble importing Mini DV tape videos to IMovie

All of the videos i import to IMovie are broken into 100's of 1s or 2s video clips. I am working in latest version of Catalina and i have all the chords required to connect my Sony camera to my IMac. Video imports without issue, but when i go to try to edit, i have 100's of tiny video clips that are choppy and dont integrate well. i have tried to merge all of the clips into 1 file and re-edit, but this does not help! Overall video is NOT worth working on. How can i get IMovie to NOT break the clips into sooo many segmented clips?

Try importing using the Record feature in QuickTime Player .

If import is successful you will need to bring this into iMovie.

Importing DV tape into iMovie with more recent OSs is becoming more difficult.

QuickTime Player can be more forgiving.
