Hello,
iPod classic does not support backing up. All data sent to iPod classic is synchronized from a computer which means that if anything were to happen to your iPod you could just plug a new one into your computer to synchronize all of your media.
Just reiterate QuickPost's statement - iPod Classic's data (music/movie ...etc) would be synchronized with PC's Mac's library.
That been said, you should backup your computer faithfully (including your music library), in case hard drive failure or change of computer.
A USB hub is a device that allows a single USB port on a computer to connect to multiple devices. I've no idea if you have one, but if you do and you connect your iPod through it then try again without using the hub. In other circumstances I might have suggested disabling your anti-virus, but I've no evidence the Windows Defender causes this type of issue. It may however be worth checking the health of your source media drive.

Anti-virus software can potentially interrupt data transfers. As I say I haven't seen issues with Windows Defender in this respect, but for several other products I have recommended excluding the iTunes Media folder from real time scanning as a way to eliminate interference. A smart backup program that is monitoring file activity could potentially lock files in a way that cause problems. Certainly worth testing with any services that you can pause suspended.

Try the break up large transfers method from Corrupt iPod Classic - Apple Community. If you're connecting the classic through a USB hub try a direct connection instead.

I will check the Corrupt iPod Classic reference asap - it looks very helpful.
I'll begin with my configuration:
I am running iTunes 12.10.6.2 on a Windows v10 OS all current updates and security active from Microsoft. I run the Windows Defender application.
I've checked my iPod Classic A1238 and today my HDSmartData shows:
1) Retracts: 266
2) Reallocs: 604
3) Pending Sectors: 0
4) PowerOn Hours: 882
5) Start/Stops: 264
6) Temp Current: 25C
7) Temp Min: 7C
8) Temp Max: 47C
If a backup process does not exist, maybe what I really need is a solution to my sync errors (eg. -53, -50, "device not available") that I have recorded.
I'd gladly settle for the sychronization of my iPod but it is very unreliable, especially when if I have more than about 125 songs on it!
How do I get support on the sync errors?
Thanks.
Thanks but at this point the USB port I'm using has never been suspect with other peripherals. hmmmm.
I'm definetely not using a USB hub.
I will continue to pursue the "device not available", and (-53), and (-50) error codes.
I have found that even with "5 song synchronizations" I can get to 150 songs (maybe 1.5 GB total) on the iPod Classic A1238 and then it dies with a (-53).
Is there any script I can run as an administrator on Windows v10 that will do what iTunes is failing to do?
For stats I show:
Retracts: 272 Reallocs: 604 Pending Sectors: 0 Poweron Hours: 886 Start/Stops: 271 Temp Current: 29C Temp: Min 7C Temp: Max 47C
I could try the restore, or reformat but I've done both so many times (I won't repeat the number, it's outrageous) that I won't go there again. From the blogs and communities I've visited, Apple will not provide additional support fir the Classic A1238 and iTunes on Windows v10. That I need to go to products from Apple that are iCloud compatible for mobile device music.
Is that your understanding?
With no change in stats I'm inclined to think it isn't the iPod itself that is the problem. Can you, or a friend, test on another computer?
As you say, Apple aren't interested in providing support for this model any longer.

What does iTunes and the synchronize process need when at startup? Are there conflicts with software like an anti-virus program, or password managers, windows file explorer smart backup, etc.
And yes, I will see if there is another laptop I can load iTunes on, thank you.
I am not familiar with 'direct connection'. Please share the link for that documentation.
The references in Corrupt iPod Classic did not work.
