What do I do if my iPad doesn't recognize the Magic Keyboard?

I just received my new Magic Keyboard for iPad Pro 11".

When I attach my iPad the keyboard isn't recognized.

I tried gently wiping the smart connector pads on the back of the iPad and gently wiping the corresponding brass looking pips on the Magic Keyboard and then reattaching the iPad and it still isn't recognized. Without having another smart connector accessory I can't tell if it's my iPad or if it's the Magic Keyboard that isn't working. Has anybody else had this experience?

iPad Pro, iPadOS 13

I’m having the same issue. But my software is up to date. iPadOS 13.4.1.

the keyboard has worked great since I got it this weekend but when I put it on the charger last night, something went wrong. I woke up to find my iPad had barely charged and the keyboard was no longer recognized.

I did test the iPad with my old Smart Keyboard folio and that works just fine. I think the new magic keyboard Is fried.
