I need to use my iMac ( 21.5 Mid 2011) as an external display for my MacBook (Mid 2007) employing Target Display Mode using Mini-DVI to HDMI adapter, HDMI cable and then HDMI to Thunderbolt adapter fro the iMac.
Is it going to work? Can anyone confirm this?

The 2011 iMac needs Thunderbolt for Target Display Mode. There are no adapters, cables, or converters that can get Thunderbolt from a 2007 computer.

I already have a MiniDVI to HDMI adapter and a HDMI cable for the MacBook so I was thinking if I would get a HDMI to ThunderBolt adapter for the iMac that should going to work.

HDMI to ThunderBolt adapters are actually Mini DisplayPort to HDMI adapter adapters. They are for connecting HDMI displays to computers with Mini DisplayPort or Thunderbolt ports. Computer Thunderbolt ports also support Mini DisplayPort for output to displays. The adapters won't work in reverse and convert HDMI to Thunderbolt.
The 2011 iMac can output Thunderbolt or HDMI, but for Target Display Mode it requires a Thunderbolt signal, not Mini DisplayPort. There are some adapters that can convert HDMI to Mini DisplayPort, but not to Thunderbolt, so they would not help.
There is no way to use a 2011 iMac in Target Display Node from a computer that has no Thunderbolt port.

Not likely, just get external display for the MBP, much more simple, reliable and it will work. If it was a 27" iMac it has a chance but 21.5" models are not worth the effort.
I am saying it will not work. If your MacBook needs an external display, please buy one.
