3.4 GHz Quad-Core Intel Core i5

32 GB 1600 MHz DDR3

NVIDIA GeForce GTX 775M 2 GB

Are they 32 bit apps, if so they will not run in Catalina. Catalina only runs 64 bit applications. You can easily check if you don't know by doing:

  • Open System Information (use Spotlight to locate it)
  • Click Software - Applications (look in the lower left) and wait a few minutes.
  • Look in the 64 bit column and then look for your Adobe apps.

If you just upgraded to Catalina Apple has been giving you notifications that 32 bit apps would not work for the past 2+ years so you either ignored them or did not understand what they meant.

However Safari should not be an issue, please post the Etrecheck report requested. If you happen to run any third party Antivirus, cleaning or other "maintenance" apps that is likely the cause of the problem.

No backup

Third party DIMMS?

App use or RAM (contact Adobe)

Reset SMC will all external peripherals and check

Okay your report helps uncover some items.

First, this has nothing to do with immediate issue but I don't see any evidence this computer is being backed up, if that is correct that should be fixed before anything as operating any computer without a full backup is a guarantee of lost data!!!!

A question about the RAM, did you buy it from Apple with 32GB of RAM or did you upgrade the RAM yourself? If you did it yourself, what brand of RAM is installed? This is important because iMacs are VERY sensitive to quality RAM and Kernel Panic's are frequently caused by RAM issues.

Next, the report indicates even though there are 32 GB of RAM, you are running short of RAM. Use Activiity Monitor to see what is using your RAM and then you can go down the road to troubleshoot it.

Finally it appears you have a number of external HD's connected to the computer. One of these may be causing the KPs and other issues. You should reset the SMC 2-3 times with all external peripherals disconnected. Then introduce each one and test for several hours or days and rinse and repeat until you either find the culprit or eliminate that a peripheral is the cause.

You can check for compatibility here to make sure (how did you determine they were ok? Looking at my Applications folder, there is no indication of 64 bit):

I see you have CleanMyMac installed. That can cause all sorts of unusual behavior; aside from that, it "cleans" so well that is quite frequently also deletes needed system files. I would not allow anywhere near one of my Macs. Please uninstall.

You also have a VPN; those can be troublesome as you do not know who they share your info with. A good and trustworthy VPN costs money.

It should be noted, do not delete these if you are using 1Password and the Adobe apps. They are normal and expected files.

~/Library/LaunchAgents/com.adobe.AAM.Updater-1.0.plist

~/Library/LaunchAgents/ws.agile.1PasswordAgent.plist

~/Library/LaunchAgents/com.adobe.ARM.***.plist

You're using the CC2020 apps, which are the latest. Those should definitely work in Catalina as Adobe released the 2020 suite in conjunction with Catalina. They all work as expected for me.

You could run the uninstaller within each app's folder, then reinstall them through your Creative Cloud account.

At one point you had CleanMyMac installed, there are still pieces of it installed. Download FindAnyFile and have it search for anything with the words CleanMyMac and Trash them and then empty the Trash. Then restart in Safe Mode per the directions in Use safe mode to isolate issues with your Mac - Apple Support and then restart normally and re-test.

CMM is considered pretty nasty malware.

I'm not seeing anything, please do the following and we can look for obvious issues.

Please navigate to the Mac App Store and download the free version of EtreCheck OR please click www.EtreCheck.com where you will find the app. Once you downloaded the free app and created the report please post it as your reply to this message. In order to post it, please use the following link for more detailed instructions on how to correctly include the results:

We can then look for obvious issues that may be causing your problem.

Cheye2020,

Your HD is failing and MUST be replaced. When replacing please replace with an OWC (www.macsales.com) SSD solution. This will dramatically improve the machines performance. Using a spinning HD is a HUGE bottleneck to an otherwise fast computer.

Please contact a local independent Apple Authorized Service Provider in your area and ask them if they can help you with this.

EtreCheck is a simple little app to display the important details of your system configuration and allow you to copy that information to the Clipboard. It is meant to be used with Apple Support Communities to help people help you with your Mac.

Pastebin is a good place to paste the whole report...

Workable but harder for me to work with...the Note tool on the bottom of this editor's toolbar, as shown in the image, to copy and paste the output from EtreCheck.
