Reject all calls and messages not in Contacts on an iPhone

Hi, I would like to have all calls and messages, incoming from phone numbers that are not in my Contacts, blocked entirely. Not silenced like in DND mode but simply rejected, without me even knowing that they tried to contact me or text me. Meaning: I don't want these to appear in missed calls or unread messages.

Is that not possible even with any 3rd party app or is it just me not able to find such solution?

Hello Aleksander,

Thank you for using Apple Support Communities! I understand that not only are you wanting to block all incoming calls and messages from phone numbers not in your contacts, you also do not want to see notifications from the missed calls or messages.

Built-in to iOS is the option to block specific phone numbers, contacts, and emails. You can also filter iMessages from unknown senders:

While you would not see a notification for missed calls from blocked contacts or numbers, they would still be able to leave a voicemail. You can also turn on Silence Unknown Callers, however this does allow notifications to be sent for missed calls. There's also some third-party apps you may want to look at in the App Store that can help detect and block spam phone calls:

Beyond that, you'll want to speak with your carrier to determine if there are additional options that can be taken on your account to prevent unknown callers from reaching you.

Take care.

Hello Sterling,

Thank you for your response.

Yes, that is right. And there was a reason I asked for such feature. Here is why:

  1. I get multiple unwanted calls per day everyday. Blocking all of them individually is really inconvinient. Besides, I still do receive all of the new ones calling me.
  2. My carrier offers only blocking unknown incoming calls, not messages. So messages often arrive from unknown phone numbers - you only see a name of the sender. Blocking such sender only by name does not work.
  3. When you filter iMessages from unknown senders, you still have a separate list of unwanted messages, which I would like not to have at all.

It would be really nice to have just one setting to simply reject all calls and messages, with or without any notifications. If you can block one specific number, then why not all except Contacts?

Of course, you should have an option to disable such feature temporarily, if you expect some call or message from a number that is not in your Contacts, lets say courier with a package delivery.

If Apple treats privacy of their users so seriously, then it should be possible, perhaps only with a "backdoor" for all kinds of state services around the world that may need to call you, like the police.
