Safe Boot from the HD, (holding Shift key down at startup), does the problem occur in Safe Mode?
Safe mode attempts to repair Disks & clears lots of caches, so if Safe Mode works try again in regular boot.
Yes, they both have the same Apple ID, I did have an App called Address labels installed, and all contacts were included there, I have since uninstalled Address labels, restarted in safe mode and then restarted in normal mode and still the contacts cards are missing. I do run CleanMyMac.
Every thing is synced OK : if I make a change or deletion on [the remain] Contacts on the Mac they instantly update on both iCloud and iPhone. I am an experienced Mac user ( since 1988 and yes I do still have my original Mac SE, SE30, Cube etc !!! ) so have a rough idea what I am doing but this one is dumbfounding me. The odd thing it is only a few that are missing - perhaps about 10%.
Thank you for taking the time to help. There is no obvious difference between those that appear in the Mac and those that dont. Some have mobile numbers, some dont, some have an christen name, surname, company name, address, birthday, email ... and some dont.
Could do, but, progress keeps marching on and leaving me behind - I have Catalina
installed on other Macs just not my main home Mac, so here we go ........ tomorrow or the day after or the day after that, perhaps even next week.
Does the Mac use the same Apple ID?
In Sys Prefs>iCloud, is Contacts checked?
Yes, I use the same Apple Id on both Mac and Iphone. And yes in Sys Prefs>iCloud, Contacts is checked.
I Figured, but am at a loss as to why it isn't working.
Oh, are you running any Anti-virus, Cleaning Apps, or VPNs?
Nothing new installed, nor antivirus or cleaning program... contacts con my laptop just dissapeared... I have them on my iphone and my icloud though... thanks for your help anyway !!!
What are the differences in a Contact Card that is missing & one that isn't... different fields maybe???
With nothing to really go on I can only suspect iCloud syncing or corrupted OS.
No problem and thank you for your help, it is very odd. Guess I am going to be forced to upgrade my OS - something that I always excited to do and now dread.
I dread it too, can you just Reinstall the OS you have?
Progress keeps marching on and tramples us all. ;)
I'm sticking with 10.13.6 until it no longer works, then I'll give up on Internet or computers or go to Linux.
