15" 2016 MacBook Pro Backlight Service Program?

My 15" 2016 MacBook Pro is having display problems identical to the ones described in the Backlight Service Program for 13" 2016 MacBook Pros (https://support.apple.com/13-inch-macbook-pro-display-backlight-service). Despite the fact that people have reported similar issues across both models elsewhere online (a quick google search for "MacBook Pro Flexgate" shows this), only 13" models are included in the relief program for whatever reason. I am not particularly eager about potentially paying hundreds of dollars for a display repair due to an inherent flaw in the machine that has been openly acknowledged in some models from the same year. I was wondering if there was a reason for this decision to exclude 15" models from the program and if there is anyway to expand coverage for these models?

I took my 2106 MBP 15" for repair and was quoted £550 for the repair. I did point out that it was the same issue as the 13" and discuss that under the Consumer Rights Act a laptop should last longer. When I went to pick it up the laptop had been repaired with a new top and screen for free. It's worth researching your rights and politely pointing out what you know.

That is not "the thing" at all. Let me reword your advice...

You're suggesting that submissive users should just pay for Apple's design failure up front, and then pray for a refund.

Which company wouldn't die to have hordes of well-behaved, submissive customers like that ? **** no! We have to fight to have them take responsibility.

We've reverted to using a MacBookPro 2010 until this is resolved. We stacked the old laptop with max memory, switched the hard drive for an SSD and shoved macOS Catalina onto it (thanks to dosdude1 for the macOS port).

I got quoted about 700 or 800 bucks.

I asked the Genius Bar guy two questions.

Q1: You acknowledge that it was the same issue as the 13" right?

A1: He said yes but unfortunately he could only repair 13" for free.

Q2: If I would pay you 800 bucks today for the repair, could you give me a warranty on the repair?? What if it would go off in three month, AGAIN, because of the same issue? If yo could not address the design flaw (like you had on the keyboard), what would be the point of me repairing it now and then paying you another 800 in very short future for a second repair.

A2: I understand your frustration but that is the best I could do. Would you want to pay using Apple Pay or credit card for today's repair?

I believe company want to avoid this additional cost on 15” screen issue coz they already spend on keyboard and battery for 15” Macbook. It was a disaster product and it is shameful act by Apple for letting consumer suffer. Such a high end product with extremely poor service. They will get our curse and will suffer one day. They are again ruining the vision of Great Mr S. Jobs
