iMessage history randomly deleted across all devices for only one contact

My text history has disappeared for only one contact on my iPhone even though I did not manually delete it. When I logged on to my Macbook and it connected to WiFi the chat history disappeared then too. I’ve checked my settings and keep messages is set to “Forever” and checked storage and I’ve used less than half my memory. My phone is also up to date on software installations and nothings been installed recently. Any ideas how this happened? And how can I recover the messages/prevent it from happening again? Of course the contact is one of the few I can’t afford to lose messages from so this is a major issue. Thanks!

iPhone 6s, 10

Keep messages.

Choose how long to keep message conversations in your account. For example, if you choose 30 Days, your conversations (and all attachments) are available in Messages for 30 days. After that, they are automatically removed.

The box of it should be checked .

Also check out the the number is not blocked https://support.apple.com/en-in/guide/messages/icht1019/mac

If you have blocked it will show in the window , select it and click on subtract sign .
