How do i wipe a broken phone before sending it back to the insurance company? I cant use the broken phone to default everything

Erase Request I dropped my phone in a toilet last night and in order to get a replacement, I have to erase the phone from find my iphone. Will the erase request be submitted even if my phone won't turn on and has no wifi/cellular connection?
